Racism has it's roots far deeper that people wish to imagine. It's from a time when black people were seen as inferior to the point that they would be beaten in the street until they died. Black people were led around on chains like pets and used as slaves with no human rights. They were not seen as people, but as a commodity. All this was socially acceptable. Today there are some people that still see black people as inferior and dirty, much of this has been passed down through generations that have never really encountered black people, the rest are just naive. The difference is that today racist behavior on any level is socially unacceptable. We all know this, but there are many that cannot see that their petty throwaway comments all link back to our unfortunate ancestors that behaved in the much more appalling way i described above.
Can someone please post some breasts now to lighten the mood.

- barbtastic0
then why are you arguing with me? it was just an observation.

Barb, so am I, across the board, but convergence doesn't add to the debate it detracts from it.
- kelpie0
hat's to understand and pin down? its a blatantly obvious phenomenon and after all these years of trying to address it, surely everybody of a reasonable standard of intelligence has a grasp of where it comes from.
I thought we were talking about Kuz' mates' compartmentalisation of their principles and not the issue as such anyway?

Ah, so everyone is in this thread. I was wondering why everything was moving so slow this morning, haha.
69!

Seriously though, there's no hope of ever moving on from racism. It can't even be discussed without unconcious desires to subjectively position oneself in relation to the issue, or to exorcise some vaguely tourettian impulse, and its only a matter of time before the rights of gay people are brought along, followed by the rights of every other social ghetto dweller. The issue of racism is the issue of racism. It has nothing, nothing at all to do with the issue of sexual discrimination, physical discrimination, religious discrimination or any other discrimination... its race discrimination and it has its own very unique facets that have no correlation whatsoever to sexual polarity or anything else. The only place that these things can sit together is the overarching discussion about humankind's innate mistrust. The issue of racism will never be resolved by failing to address the actual phenomenon and diffusing discourse thinly across other forms of discrimination.
4 pages of thoughts and comments here and to my mind, not one attempt to understand or pin it down.

I talked to Kuz at a pub last Friday. I asked whether he was born in the UK and then where his family origins were from.

i don't usually take anything too seriously [esp here], but...
only read half the thread, and glad to read how most of you believe this sort of behavior is infuriating and hard to understand.
on the other hand, a large amount of you on here are SO quick to throw around the gay jokes around at each other and i find it to be one in the same. if you were calling each other pakis and n-words in your jokin with each other, it wouldn't be so giggly and hilarious anymore, would it?
i'm not at all offended by it, at the same time i expect more from you guys... you are all so much more clever than having to resort to the tired and oh-so-typical novelty fag jokes.
make me proud, ladies :D

Everybody has been guilty of racism at some point in their lives, whether it be casual, provincial or whatever, can't deny that!
A couple of my Asian friends at school, called me 'undercooked bread' which is probably this shitest piece of casual taunting I'd ever been subjected to.

i am a (very) white guy. had a relationship with a black girl i worked with once. one of my exes hated this. she didnt care about any of the other girls i had been with(which is not that many) , but she had a huge problem with the 'black girl'
really kinda ridiculous and sad
