the time is almost at hand! we will be going to argentina the end of february for 2 weeks.we will be flying into buenos aires.
so...where should we go? the only thing we have on the itinerary right now is taking a plane to mendoza for a 3-5 day trip.
I would love to see iguaza falls, and would also love a chance to get into chile or uraguay/brazil for a bus trip for a couple days??
we don't plan on traveling any further south (due to the fact that we are trying to get away from the mn weather!), so any suggestions in the north-bound region would be great!
thanks again.

personally, from traveling pretty extensively in that part of the world and there specifically; i would spend 10x as much time in Torres del Paine, than Iguazu Falls. but that is just me. they are both spectacular, peró, los torres son incrediiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiblé....

It depends what do you want to do, my friend. If you want to trip and do something like trekking, biking, diving, bird-watching, fly fishing, rafting, and so many other sports while you came I think Patagonia is for you. There is also another things to do. You can watch Whales and Orcas in Peninsula Valdez, Vineyars in Mendoza and Neuquen, you can travel thru Neuquen in a 1800's train, I make that trip and it's so far west...
I pretty much don't know anything about Chile' side of Patagonia, but I went to Torres del Paine and it's amazing.
There is 3 provinces to look for in Patagonia If you want to know anything more about these locations I strongly suggest you to visit interpatagonia.com or welcomeargentina.com.
I live in Neuquen, if you came over here, just let me know. I'll be glad to show a hint of Patagonia.

thanks for the info guys! see the thing is, is that this is going to be a honeymoon trip so i'm looking for warmer/more relaxing places to go to. really the emphasis is on "warmer" though.
i know i could google this but just out of curiousity, how long/how expensive is a flight out of BA south into Torres del Paine? and what is the temp like?
thanks again all.

Ushiaua is pretty cool and a RT flight from Buenos Aries is not very expensive. At least it used to not be. Torres del Paine is amazing. I mean amazing. you can do a 3 day hike there if your strapped for time. you can do iguazu falls in a quick 2 day trip.

Ushiaua fucking RULES. it is honestly one of my 1, 2 favorite places on this planet, no question. i was there is time of year, 2 ago and it was wonderful.
It is a real toss-up between there and Torres, as they are so striking and so worth it, but so different. The transport to Torres del Paine is pretty nutty though; like a 4-5 hour coach ride from the nearest airport on dirt roads. Worth it for sure, but not easily in/out, if that is what you are looking for. And the only hotel (outside of camping, which i would recommend over all else) is pretty pricey, like $500USD/day:
It will also not be "warm" in the park as you are at a pretty high altitude (~ 800-1200M) so not exactly bikini weather per say.
That said, i would go in a heartbeat if i could. You will be very happy in BA w/ all the amenities, etc., but if you want to see a point on the planet that will take your breathe away the first time you gaze upon it, and each time you sit down and bring the picture to your mind- i would really suggest going to either Ushiaua or Torres del Paine.

thanks again. you make some very compelling points madirish as to why we should NOT miss Torres del Paine and Ushiaua. damn though that $500 a night is crazy expensive!
i got some things to look into now.
do you guys have any "do not miss" points north...or does it all go down in the south?
- jaylarson0
Iguazu is on the border of Brazil and Paraguay, so I expect it to be warmer. But I ain't been there yet. I only live vicariously :(

mendoza is a great choice... try to keep it simple and enjoy more time in the palces that you are actually staying out... maybe you can make it to brazil and chile... but you won't get to catch the vibe in a day or two

//wow, this place really looks like it sucks...

so would renting a car be a wise choice? or should we just stick with public trasportation?
- lvl_130
okay! so i was checking out flights from buenos aires to iguaza falls..
the cheapest i could find was a fucking grand (ie.$1000 US)!what?! that was off kayak.com. we wanted to go there for a few days at the end of february/beginning of march. please tell me there is something much, much, much more reasonable than that!?
thanks, and 1 million karma points for any help :)

tips re: Chilé:
- only U.S. and Canadian citizens are required to purchase a $100USD visa in Chilé. it is a rip and logically arguing with them will not work (ask me how i know).- it is arguably the most expensive country in SA. great, albeit, but comparatively your exchange will go far less.
- no matter what anyone tells you, Chilé did NOT invent Pisco. however, they make a damn fine Pisco Sour.... ;)
- you can camp in Parqué Torres del Paine for only the fee of the park for time staying (days). there are hotels, clearly, but they are very expensive. also be very clear to plan on a FULL days' transport both going in, and coming back to/from the parqué. it is basically close to zero towns of major route.
- Note: i wish to HELL i was going to SA tomorrow. have a great trip.madirish

My father grew up between BA (Casaros?) and Mendoza.
If you eat meat, get some asado. Wake up early and get some
Facturas. Eat some Alfahores and dule de leche. I hear that nmarionettes are huge there. Have fun!
