i hear ya pony. the good thing about all these crits is that they are relevant. they aren't mundane that its not worth doing, yknow?
but, the end game would probably be working in an agency (but not one of those leave work at 2am and be back by 10am type of deals--if that exists) in manhattan. i tried to beef up the look and feel of my sports pieces so that they have more of a unique feel to them which hopefully some agency with a sports account could use. but, i know i can apply my style to almost anything when given a brief.
so, i guess im not gonna be picky in where i work, i just want it to be challenging and not corporate.

what's your end-goal, matty?
what kinda joint are you looking to get in with?
cuz... as you can see - there are many diff. realms of designers from corpo to posh boutique gigs commenting here...
... and I've actually taken all this advice and lumped it on myself as I'm rebuilding my folio myself...
... and I can't make a decision on 'where' I'd put the Bush piece if it were mine...
... cuz, it 'could' hurt OR it could be a heralding factor that they'll remember you for...
... so I guess it comes down to 'who' you want to work for. Your a skilled chap - I'm pretty sure you're a fine fit at any number of places...
... so.. 'aim' for the positions that you really want. Research who you're interviewing for or who you're presenting to...
... adjust as you see fit to adequately 'sell yourself' to each potential employer... and in order to do that... you need to research who it is that is interviewing you (look at their work... read their 'about' section) etc etc...
... else, I think you'll be adjusting your portfolio left and right based on the critique of one person vs. the other in a non-ending cycle of pure hellish turmoil that will cost you sleep, diminish your sex drive and make you an all-around unfriendly fella... nahmean? :)

that was the strategy i used before. which is probably why i was having such a hard time getting a call back...

(Dec 14 06, 13:41)When you introduce yourself on interviews, you should firmly shake hands and then immediately punch everyone in the groin. You will thus achieve a completely neutral greeting.
Just kidding, nice work.

anyway, since you moved it, it's not as big of deal
- Jaline0
well, it's Bush.

the image isn't political though.

It probably depends on what kind of job you're applying for. I think that having political messages will do more harm than good so I wouldn't personally have them, but it's up to you.
Being patriotic isn't horrible but judging by everything that has been happening the past few years and depending on where you live, I would think about whether or not having political messages/images in my folio is appropriate.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING PATRIOITIC

i probably will. either that or come back every other weekend to boston and light that league up again with my arsenal of unhittable pitches.
next year they are breaking the country up into divisions (northeast being one of them) and they will have a world series at the end of the year. not sure if i just want to stick with my boston team for that.

League/Team.

You going to join a new vintage baseball league in NYC?
- mattyd040
i was going to do that, rand, but the work the moves is in an iframe and the 'selected works' is not. so, it wouldnt work. yknow?
- Rand0
if you put prev and next up next to selected works, slightly to the right, you could be sure people would always see it no matter how short their brwser window is, and I think it would make the page and captions looks neater
- mattyd040
i might use small grey arrows instead of 'prev' and 'next' though. i think the text links kind of hurt the overall design.

awwww shiiiit.
