janne, I'm aware the Netherlands has stricter policies about this (or at least I read that online).
The good thing about the Labour party is that they have instilled programs for women in politics.
Immigrants should be allowed to speak their own language and do whatever they want in that respect as long as they can speak English when talking to other people about important things (like at the airport or when asking questions), and they should definitely follow the laws of the place they move to. It only makes sense.
The whole politically correct thing about Christmas is definitely annoying, but what's wrong with respecting a few other cultures now and then? Of course, it gets too far when people want to take down Christmas trees because they're "too Christian", especially since these festivities mean something other than the birth of Christ to most people now (let's be honest). These movements about keeping holiday cards completely "christian" with "merry christmas" or, the other extreme, keeping them "happy holidays" are both ridiculous and are getting more annoying.

lol at stricter policies. children are being dragged out of schools to be put into small prison cells waiting for detention. and that is the tip nof the iceberg.
deportation is a better word.

I went into my local post office the other day and there was queue. The guy serving was a Muslim who was serving a Muslim lady. Behind her was a Polish guy on his mobile, behind him was three Polish girls chatting, and behind me was two Muslim mums in their full outfits gassing away. I was the only English person in there, and it made me feel like an immigrant in my own country.

....and?
also, I bet one those Polish women was Jaz-X's ex.

There seems to be a correlation between
A. English-speaking Americans who travel to a place like France and get angry because some Frenchman was rude to them for being a stupid American who expects the Frenchman to speak English
and
B. Americans who expect immigrants to fully assimilate.
- Jaline0
The whole thing is kind of ironic too since some countries enjoy imposing their own views on other countries, regardless of who is right or wrong, and then turn around and expect others to conform to their beliefs when they come into their country.

When I was on my teaching placement I wasn't allowed to do any Christmas activities in the classroom, in case I offended anyone.

If I were to ever take a trip to Germany or France, I'd better learn how to speak the language before I go, at the very least enough to get by, or else it's gonna be a real bad trip not being able to ask where the bathroom is and having to shit on the floor.

Last time I was in Paris, people on the streets were very eager to give directions in English.. contrary to popular beliefs they seemed both excited they were using English and somewhat proud they could do it!

I've got a house in the south of france and can speak a very little bit of french.
Whenever I go over there I always take a phrase book/ dictionary and if I can't say it I at least try to learn it.
I know of people who have been in England for years and can't speak a facking word of English. That's just plain lazy arsed and ignorant.
