I'll tip a waitress/waiter purley because they actually are serving me and chances are going out of their way to make my meal an enjoyable one.
There just isnt that same connection with bartenders.

HAHA! I thought the same thing jdcomba! And as far as the real tipping situation goes, just tip the bartender for his services please. I bartended for over 3 years and believe me, I busted my ass most of the time. Granted I worked at a nightclub out here in Vegas so it was mad busy. When the club I worked at started to die out and get slow on business, I truly appreciated those who left at least a dollar. I've dealt with it all: 17 cent tip, people stealing my tip money to pay for drinks they couldn't afford in the first place, having drinks thrown at me, etc... of course that doesn't justify me getting tips. What justifies it is my service to you and your friends. If you come up to the bar and order a cape cod, a mudslide, 2 Coors Lights and a pina colada and you don't tip me, best believe you aren't getting served promptly at my bar next time. I'll short your drinks, spill your beer etc. What people also didn't understand is that where I worked we had tip compliance with the IRS. That means that Uncle Sam takes extra money out of our checks according to what they think we make in tips per hour. At my establishment they estimated $5/hr. which was a nice low end figure to in the beginning; but after a couple years when I would go home at the end of the night with $14 thanks to an ungrateful broke ass crowd I was pissed. I actually ended up losing money on nights like that. My standard tip to bartenders and waitresses is $2/drink. Most service people appreciate that and show me love from my gratitude and tips.
But getting kicked out for not tipping the owner, fuck that. Flatten his tires.

Their livelyhood *depends* on the tip? How fucked up is that? What about people who pay with credit cards? I would say 80% of people in bars do that over here..!
- jdcomba0
on credit card reciept there is a tip line and a full amount line. enter tip on line add to bill, enter full amount. tip on CC!
- inri0
thank you all for your ideas and opinions...what i really would like to do is piss on the seat of his harley...but i wont...because i value my life and he is a fuckhead anyway...soon or later a semi will get him...
- inri0
i just pissed on his seat..gotta run...
- scarabin0
whenever i go to a bar i just give the bartender a $20 tip before ordering anything, then don't worry about it the rest of the night. they'll take care of you 'n' shit after that.
- scarabin0
also, in a lot of places your tip pays for the tax on your drink. if you don't tip the 'tendewr has to pay your tax out of pocket.
and never leave change for a bartender, it's insulting
- rasko40
you give the bartender $20 before you even buy a drink hahahaha WTF, do you buy friends aswell?
seriously tho, tipping for beers is fucked, why am I going to pay for the priveledge of buying beer, that is not 'service', service is if someone is bringing that shit to my table and being friendly. As for you people saying that employees rely on tips for their living, well sorry but that is not my problem, that is a problem with the industry, perpetuated by tipping.
Nah I'm sorry but tipping like that is a mugs game.
- UndoUndo0
i agree with rasko, wtf is that, especially if you get thrown out??
dont go back, feck em

I leave huge tips everywhere.
it makes me feel like a big shot for relatively little money.

Been kicked out because I didn't tip some cunt in a bar in Quebec.
I was outta cash, so i just used my Visa that night.. after the 4 Long Island Icetea I got the big boot out of there.. WTF!
I was so piss drunk I ready to buy the hole bar a round.. but with the CC and the bartender wanted his two quarters ..:/
- jdcomba0
ok. once again. if you don't tip at a bar your an asshole.
how about this. you do all this design work and your clients like, fuck that, i'm not going to pay for this service. there you go, now you work for free! enjoy that.
- lvl_130
i tip. always. if you're not going to tip then stay at home. that shit should just be considered part of the overall night cost.
they don't make shit for hourly money and the tips are what keep them above water. i've tried being a server and it SUCKS! seriously stressful for me personally. i respect the people that can put up with all the shit everyday at a job.
- designerror0
they get the min. hourly pay, the tip is just a bonus, no?. If they don't like it, they can go find another job.
I'm so Mr. Pink when it comes the waiters/bartenders .

(Sep 11 05, 14:47)not true. they are required to claim 15-18% of total sales as 'tips'. they are then taxed on that amount which makes the hourly min.wage basically non-existant...so no tips are not just "bonus"
- Point50
seriously jdcomba, I agree. If you don't want to tip your bartender when you order drinks, do everyone a favor and either stay home and get drunk there or keep walking out to you car or going to the restroom to sip out of your flask. I guess you'd have to be in a postition where you do depend on tips for a living to understand the system. And being that person, the problem wasn't that I was in a "tip-position" job, my problem was the cheap and unappreciative people that lowered my income and value of my job. I mean seriously, if you can't afford to go out, stay home. Go to the store, get a case of Natty Lite and call it night. Been there done that, you know...

-----------------------------the same can be said for the customer. Don't like to tip? Then go home or find another bar that will put up with it. I think a lot of people don't like bartenders in general. Yeah, I know some people that make $200,000+ bartending, and then I know those guys that are barely making it and it's their career. I mean these guys are 40+ years old raising a family. It's no different than any other job in the sense that you're there to get paid; earn a living.

Mr. Pink from Reservoir Dogs
"I'm very sorry the government taxes their tips, that's fucked up. That ain't my fault. It would seem to me that waitresses are one of the many groups the government fucks in the ass on a regular basis. Look, if you ask me to sign something that says the government shouldn't do that, I'll sign it, put it to a vote, I'll vote for it, but what I won't do is play ball. And as for this non-college bullshit I got two words for that: learn to fuckin' type, 'cause if you're expecting me to help out with the rent you're in for a big fuckin' surprise."
"I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job."
- jdcomba0
you got it. if you don't tip, stay home. all bartenders i know, make nothing from the establishment. all off the books. all tips. so if no one tips. then they work for free.
