ladies and gentlemen,
today is a historic day. With nearly 8 million iraqis voting today, the middle east has witnessed the first steps in its very own renaissance. dispite a few violent acts, the people of iraq stood up for freedom and democracy, something that has never had a place in their country. The people of iraq stood up in the face of tyranny and threatened violence and chose to make their voice heard.
grab a newspaper today, it is a historic event that will mark the turning point for the middle east. this is the iraqis declaration of independence. enjoy it.here is an image that pretty much sums up the day:
VIVA IRAQ!!!

try and show that to the 8 million+ iraqis. :)

that's btw the us yahoo vs uk yahoo news.
- virtu0
ok?! so your point is that the uk media is extremely pessimistic? and only cares to give voice to the things that forward its antiwar agenda? what is your point? showing UK media biased?
- rabattski0
someone else already answered that question.
copy/paste:
If by "winning", you mean being killed daily in the streets by an undetectable and unidentified enemy, then yes. We are winning.
- rabattski0
and this thread needs to be trashed.
- virtu0
so, in order to be winning a battle, you have to have absolutly no casualties? if one person dies that means you are losing? why kind of skewed perspective is that?
and, if daily casualties are the basis of winning or losing, then i guess that means the the allied forces and the insurgents are both losing. only, the insurgents are losing way worse than we are.that is a pretty shotty point man. you gotta have something better than that. give it a shot.
- rabattski0
whatever virtu. i'm not going to argue with you. this whole thread will explode into a political rage, people will be striked and kicked and what have you not. this is not the place.
- janne0
virtu, you only come here to post about politics and never contribute to other threads.
which means:
- you are an alter-ego of a regular here.
or
- no designer, but solely a politically obsessed person.

"If by "winning", you mean being killed daily in the streets by an undetectable and unidentified enemy, then yes. We are winning."
Very wise words..
I hope someday the can leave in peace, nobody deserves what this people are going through.

can someone please kick away the fucking soapbox from which virtu stands on to preach us his crap?
thanks in advance.

janne,
that is a very interesting idea. I will have to look into that.
and. let me also state that this thread is not political. i am simply celebrating democracy in iraq. I am beyond excited about this. it was amazingly moving to watch those guys cast their ballots. i feel honored to be witness to this historical event. I was merely sharing my excitement. So, i guess this thread would rule out your second hypothesis, but the first one is still very much alive and kicking. and, as i said before, i will look into that. :)
- virtu0
so you guys arent excited for the iraqi people? you arent excited that they are finally able to vote? cmon, there has to be some excitement that our hard work there is paying off.
- 2cent0
see now you're just looking for fight vitru.
- virtu0
i most certainly am not. I am simply asking questions.
- janne0
i agree with you. i am glad we finally got these elections.
(even busloads with Iraqi's who couldn't voter in Belgium arrived in the Netherlands yesterday to vote here, which was heartwarming to see in a way)..as for this thread, just saying this:
i just don't want another fight here on NT.
- Meeklo0
"there has to be some excitement that our hard work there is paying off."
Oh.. Im sure it will $$PAY$$ off, but I don't think that is something to be excited about..

meeklo,
the cost of freedom is extremely high. there is not doubt about it. I am most certainly not saying that this day cost nothing. the costs were high, both in monetary and human means. I dont forget those sacrafices that were made. I am just excited to see some pay off for the amount of money spent, and the lifes that were lost. I think the soldiers over there are happy to see it too. talk about a moral boost.
VIVA IRAQ!
- Meeklo0
its funny, we only agree on:
VIVA IRAQ!:)
- virtu0
so your cheering for the insurgency to win?
