"another way is to just leave him alone and cross our fingers and hope for the best. "
There's that argument again, that anti-war protesters want to leave Saddam alone and let him carry on the way he is.
I do not support Saddam. He is an evil terrorist. But I do not believe that bombing Iraq will be the precise blood-free excercise that supporters of war need to believe in in order to ease their consciences. That's what they said at the last gulf war, maybe you don't remember.
The iraqi people must be supported in order that they may overthrow Saddam themselves. Democracy cannot be imposed from above by the US, it must be grown from the grassroots up.

Too much nationalistic pride will blind you of the fact that first and foremost you are a human being.
And that isn't nice. Guy.

This is story repeating itself like it always does. It's a shame that we are in the 21st century and we still making the same mistakes we always did as the human race. This is a war based on monetary reasons first of all, people from one specific belief is being attacked, and all of us are going to suffer this stupid war consequences in one way or another. Let's pray that God will put his hand here, and all this nonsence will be stopped somehow.
What makes me sad is to see how only one person can turn the world upside down without anybody having the resources necessary to stop him. Again David and Goliath, again a WW, again stupidity ruling our lifes, again a war where faith is involved (somehow), again we will be exchanging goods for blood, history repeating itself...AGAINGod help us all...

oh thats a great link by the way on the historical background of the iraq conflict. thanks!

i am still waiting for the proof that Iraq are a threat to us or the US...
"A war in the Gulf is the best way to ensure we DO get another 911."
Absolutely. If we want to stop people hating us and our way of life then 'our ' governments should keep there nose out of other people's business.
Why have we stopped looking at why we are here? Why did 911 happen?
what are the causes and how do we stop it happening again?Suddenly we are concerned by the conditions the Iraqi people are living in.
Aren't we nice.
Maybe they wouldn't of been up shit streak if we hadn't been starving them and bombing them for 12 years. we talk of Saddam's horrendous treatment of his people when we have been doing his job for him and killing Iraqis. If sanctions hadn't been in place the people of Iraq would of been able to kick the nutter out years ago (like all other leaders put in power by a foreign power (and remember who put the nut case in power in the first place)...eventually the people get strong/pissed off enough and kick him out).
watch what happens to Afghanistan in the next year...what a successful liberation that was.Read the history books, we are making the same mistakes over and over.
And we aren't learning.
Generations are suffering now because of mistakes past governments have made in short sighted foreign policy and our governments today are doing the same thing.
This whole thing is becoming a terrible, terrible joke without a punchline.
fuck I am scared and it isn't going away.
sorry to go on.

"I'm a texan. I've been under bush's evil regime for a long time now. I'm fed up with it. "
It's easy for us on the outside looking in to take an anti-war stance, but for someone on the inside to be able to stand up and express what he believes in a hostile pro-war environment especialy in the belly of the beast that is texas, all i can say is respect.
