Flex / Flash Feb 1, 08, 4:17 a.m.

Super confused... I'm looking at learning Actionscript 3 but am getting confused with the whole Flex thing. I've got experience in AS2 (writing classes and doing things programatically rather than with the flash tool)...

What I don't really understand is when you'd use Flex over writing your own AS3 scripts... why flex?

Anyone here using flickr as their portfolio instead of creating a custom personal website?

It seems like a double-up to have folio work on your personal website, and to also have your work on flickr. Why not pump everything through flickr?

pros / cons?

I think the main argument would be that it's not very personal and there's a lose of control. But is it that important? Isn't the work itself the main point?

I'm trying to work out what the deal is with opentype vs mac postscript fonts and how ligatures and alternates work.

Apparently Opentype fonts can have automatic insertion of old style figures, ligatures and small caps (last para http://www.itcfonts.com/Fonts/Ne…) .. wtf? rad. Does this work in CS3?

Does that mean if you were using a MAC postscript font you'd have to insert your alternates and ligatures manually?

I'm looking at buying ITC Galliard for the sexy alternates and ligatures.

OpenType (does this come with the same characters as MAC postscript below??)

Man for some reason ever since I installed Tiger, all my symbol fonts don't work... they just show up as question marks.

Anyone know how to enable such fonts? (Zapf Dingbats, Adobe Wood Type Ornaments etc)

Do I need to install all the language translations? Cos when I installed I only installed English... not even sure if it's related to this though.
