Anyone here using flickr as their portfolio instead of creating a custom personal website?
It seems like a double-up to have folio work on your personal website, and to also have your work on flickr. Why not pump everything through flickr?
pros / cons?
I think the main argument would be that it's not very personal and there's a lose of control. But is it that important? Isn't the work itself the main point?

designing your own site is more professional. you wouldn't see a studio posting their work on flickr, so why would you?

true.... haha that would be funny though.

this is pretty cool using flickr API:
http://www.signalnoise.com/galle…the generic flickr site is a pretty dull portfolio format.

Depends. A lot of people who run smaller shops, who are resources for larger agencies have very little awareness of current do's and don'ts. They have 30 seconds in between meetings to look at your work. I really believe portfolio format doesn't matter anymore, at least for getting work. It's the work itself and if you're a competent muppet. It should be immediate and easy to navigate, is all.

I'd be fine if someone presented work through Flickr, as long as they presented well. I would see a con as it's hard to set up a project. Working in software I want to see poeple's process... I'm not sure how that would look being totally posted on Flickr. It may work better for nice print work.

supersimple.org has something called flickrhelpr that lets you use flickr to feed photos to a customized front-end.

obviously it would depend on whether the work was good or not but you'd have to wonder why they were so lazy about it

There's a few small agencies in Minneapolis that make flickr folios for other designers, photographers, etc.. but only if it's on a tight budget.

Thanks for the replies. I think one of the better solutions with as per 'helloperson'... using the flickr api to pull the pics into your site.
interesting though.

I used to put work through a Flickr slideshow put it's too slow. I still use it on my site just to show some sketches though. http://www.philipregan.com/sketc…
I think as long as it's integrated reasonably well it's ok but it does mean you kind of have to build around it though.
