Is there a fairly simple way to create that wavy icon shape of the QBN logo in illustrator? I'd imagine there is... I just can't suss it out.

rounded triange/rotate a new copy 90degrees maybe 180 degrees/pathfinder...something along those lines roughly but i am not in front of a computer right now. i am doing this by mental telepathy.

ah yes. but then where the triangles cross over it will be a hard angle... not a curve.
But I think that concept will be enough to get it going.

I guess a simple way would be to draw the basic shape and then apply rounded corners...although it would probably need some tweaking to look good.

ukit is onto something...probably a six sided star with rounded corners
(hold down the arrow keys up or down i think) again this is mental telepathic

OK, here's the definitive version (or how I would do it, at least)...
1) Create a 6-sided star (with right radius etc.)
2) Break apart inner and outer point for one "spike" of the star
3) Apply rounded corners effect to inner and outer curve separately so you can get the right curvature for each
4) Rotate these to recreate the entire shape, but now rounded
5) Merge into one shape
6) You now have your own QBN logo

yo ukit.... did you do one? can you post a screenshot that shows the theory? I don't get point 2.
- OnePixelSolid0
never mind... got it..

The star is made up of outer spikes (the triangles) and inner spikes (where the triangles meet), right? Take the scissors tool and cut your star so you have the outer and inner spikes as separate shapes. Apply rounded corners to each one separately, then connect the points back into one big shape.

ahhhh... got it... nice!

or you can use the ellipse tool. then go to distort & transform. click zig-zag.
within the zig zag tool you can change the points to smooth then mess with the settings to give yourself the similar effect.
or you can draw half of one of the bumps both from the inner to the upper point. knowing you are working with 360 degrees all you have to do is pick a number you know will be divisible by 360.
copy and paste on itself. lets say your number ended up being 12. copy and paste on front - click rotate, rotate by 12 degrees, then join the two inner points. you can then grab the larger line you just created - copy and paste on front - rotate by 24 degrees since you have two objects. proceed until you end up at the top and join all of the points.

yeah, you can do all of the above or just a circle with the zig zag tool, this will probably do it 10 times faster though

actually this is a form that comes of a footage cd i also have.
its called 'graphic and nature signs'

why not skip all that hogwash and just up the contrast on the raster image, then live trace it. 45 second process will be much easier than all that tweaking. (if you're looking for the quick way)

art brush or pattern brush on circle. pretty easy to make the wavy brush since it's straight.

Listen, all you gotta do is, scour ebay for a QBN sticker, bid on that motherfucker, wait for it to arrive by mail, scan that shit in, and then presto - live trace - and it's done.

why not go simpler still - star tool, 35/50 radii, 6 points then rounf corners 9 or 10 px.
boom, done in less than a minute

you guys are joking right?

I feel dirty, like I've done something I shouldn't.

OK, now can someone please tell me how to recreate the Newstoday logo?
