macbook pro 2.3 vs 2.6ghz Jan 30, 13, 10:37 a.m.
I am about to pick up a new macbook pro w/ retina for video editing and motion graphics work.
I am definitely going to upgrade to 16gb of ram, but I am wondering if there would be much noticeable difference between the 2.3 ghz processor and the 2.6ghz. Both options are quad-core
is it worth an extra $600 for the 2.6? I'm not trying to be cheap, but if its only a matter of a render taking slightly less time, I might go with the 2.3 option.
anyone using either option for video?
any thoughts?
thanks in advance
test projects? Jul 19, 12, 9:19 a.m.
I am in the running for a fulltime position and the employer has asked me to do a test project for them to see the way I work.
I completely understand the reasoning behind this and have done this in the past, but usually I am asked to do something that would only take a few hours at most. For this job, they basically want me to create a micro-site which could easily be 2 full days of work with no pay and no guarantee that I even get the job.
What's your take on a test project of this scale? does it seem a bit excessive? should this already be a red flag for the type of employers I will be working for?

site review - jewelry May 5, 11, 12:21 a.m.
just helped launch a site for a new jewelry line...would love to get feedback on the site and/or the jewelry itself. I built the site with shopify using my own html and css...I am a flash guy so this was my first spin at a non-flash site.
be honest, but be kind.

good box printing? Mar 26, 11, 9:51 a.m.
I am working with a jewelry line company on their launch. We had ordered some natural craft-paper boxes with the logo printed on the top. The quality was okay, but not great, and ended up being a bit expensive. We now need to place a larger order (400-500) and I want to try and find some better options.
Does anyone have any experience with good companies to get some small boxes printed? Any advice over ink-printed vs hot stamping?
Thanks in advance!
anyone worked with Shopify? Dec 9, 10, 8:48 a.m.
I am helping my wife set up an e-commerce site for her jewelry and was considering using Shopify to set up her online store.
I mostly work in flash (AS3) but I have a basic understanding of html and css, and am in the process of learning more. I know that Shopify uses their own kind of coding system (Liquid) to create their pages, but have read that its not too tough to get the hang of if you know other programming languages.
Has anyone here worked with customizing Shopify pages before? Do you recommend the service as a whole ? Is it worth taking a shot at trying to customize the pages myself or will I most likely find myself completely lost?
Another question I have is if its worth creating the entire website thru Shopify. Initially I was going to build the main site in flash and then link to the store, but in the interest of attracting the most customers (i.e. mobile users), we figured it might make sense to skip flash altogether. But since I am far from an html/css/java expert, a little help from a service like Shopify may be all we need.
Thoughts? advice? or just feel like giving me a hard time cause I am a flash guy.... bring it on!
Thanks!

paypal help Dec 10, 09, 1:02 p.m.
I am setting up a website that would take some information from a few text fields internally from my site and then export it to paypal's checkout page when the user checks out.
I know that paypal has some custom 'buy now' buttons, but I need something slightly more modifiable than that.
Is there anyone out there in qbn land who I can hire for some paypal assistance or point me in the right direction?
image optimization for fullscreen flash Nov 17, 09, 1:37 p.m.
I am doing a fullscreen flash page that will have an image as the background stretched to fit the frame.
I already know how to have the image scale to the size of the window while maintaining the proper proportions, but I am wondering what should be the optimal size of the image should be?
I want the image to look just as crisp when the browser windows come up on large monitors, as well as on smaller screens like 13" macbooks.
Is there a specific size I should set the images at?
Should I save the image with any particular extra settings ?
s there some sort of plugin or code to add to my Actionscript that will help the image look crisp even if its been scaled?
Thanks for the help in advance and hopefully there won't be too much flash hate in this post.
cheers
which PS3 to get? Aug 20, 09, 6:13 a.m.
with the recent price drop of the PS3 I am very tempted to pick one up, but I'm not sure which one to go with, the old model or the new slim one since they are both now being sold for 299
I am not a hard-core gamer, and I imagine the only games I will end up buying will be GTA4 and NBA 2k10, so I don't really care about the newer slim one having a bigger hard drive, as I don't think I am going to need all that much space.
I know they are some things they are taking off this new one, so I am wondering if it makes sense to get the old clunker model. any advice?
AS2 ---> AS3 Apr 23, 09, 9:35 a.m.
I am starting the process of learning Actionscript 3.0 after spending the last two years working and learning 2.0. I have been checking a few different books and using some of the lynda.com tutorials.
I can understand how some things are easier and more user-friendly in AS3, but I personally like the functionality of how things are done in AS2 much better. If it were up to me, I would stay in AS2, but I don't want to get left behind in the industry as it seems like AS3 has now become the norm.
Is anyone else in the process of making the transition, is there any advice you can offer? What books do you think are the best?
flash sites in google Dec 12, 08, 6:15 a.m.
I am working on a site that is 100% flash based and I want it to show up in google searches. I added a bunch of key words to the meta tags, as well as creating a html page with black on black text with all the key words and links.
So far I still haven't had much luck...and the site doesn't show up until page 4 or 5 on google, while flick'r pages and other sites that link to that site come up right on top...my client really wants his site to come up on the first page, and I don't know what to do to help him....
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

xml templates Jun 26, 07, 4:41 p.m.
Hey good peoples.
I work in flash...but my action script is mid-range at best...I am working on a photo based website that I want to set up with xml. I was looking at some websites that offer template files and was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions.
so far the best site that I have seen is: http://www.myflashxml.com/
however, they include full working sites and all i really need is a photo gallery section so i would rather not pay for other elements that i don't really need.
has anyone used any of these template sites before? can you offer any opinions on them good and bad?
thanks
Aa
