I'm having the worst time landing a job. and getting pretty scared. I've applied to 560+ positions, remote and local. its seems my 25+ years of experience and being 47 is now a liability.
I hear positions are getting 5000 submissions each; how they fuck are we supposed to land a job. I even have claude code helping me customize and submit for me. wtf!
anyone else out there going through this?

I know a couple long time friends, both creative directors who are coming up on a year after layoffs. they are both traditional CD's who never moved into product design.
remote positions are going to be competitive AF. what are you looking for?

What got me out of every rough no job times was launching a project myself, spec pitching the projects I wanted to make, looking for sponsors and future partners (even before they were funded, if they ever were) or reps for these projects.
This keeps you active and "distracted" + is a chance for new people to see what you're capable of, what ideas you have etc. Plus it's a way to connect with people who can later give you jobs, without being exactly asking for one.
Hang in there, nothing is permanent.
- Also, if interesting and not too time consuming, pro bono work for people you like is sometimes a good way to reassure yourself about your skills.spl33nidoru

Not sure what most of those titles mean or what the people on those positions actually do, a lot of talking and overseeing other people?
As much as I hate the grind sometimes I’ve been able to keep myself busy by doing a bit of everything, but not sure how long that’ll last as my clients turn to ai to do it themselves.
Maybe it’s like that in the corporate world too owners and senior management bypass middle management and turn to ai to get things done.
No idea, but 5000 applications for a single job or 560 submissions without a bite is scary as f. Good luck - crazy times :(

Plash, just had a look at your portfolio/resume link and honestly it looks too ai. I can’t tell if you’re a bot or a human :(
It needs a personal touch, a photo, video something, they want to hire Andres not Claude. They see 5000 applications from Claud daily.
Mail them a handwritten or typewritten resume on nice stock in a nice package or something, you’ll get noticed 1000% faster.

Three and a half years ago, I got three offers in about 3 months and part of that was during Xmas/New Years. Now, that I've been looking for work for the last three years, I've gotten 3-4 interviews. When I loose my job within the next few months, I seriously think my career will be over. This job market is worse than 9/11, worse than 2009's housing crisis and worse than Covid. It also feels like it's not going to turn around for creatives.

Honestly, looking at your site for 2 minutes, I'm not sure what you do. Are you a programmer, consultant or designer?
The site feels heavy with too many colors and type sizes and fonts and not enough actual content.
The fake branding jobs like Gap look like student work which isn't helpful and there's just a few pics for each.
It needs to be more straightforward. Say who you are and what you do in a few sentences, then post 3–4 projects in depth.
Less is more.
