No explanation needed, just post stories about your actions motivated by the most mysterious emotion in human existence.

I get up every morning, before I am ready, to make a decent breakfast for my kid and then I wake her gently, despite her very much not returning the favour when it's her turn.

    • Why do you even bother? Haha!Ianbolton
    • You have to wake HER up?monospaced
    • Weekdays, yes, and she doesn't like it. Come the weekend though and BAM, that little fucker's up at dawn.Nairn
    • I'm impressed. I haven't had to set any alarm for years because my kids are up at dawn year round.monospaced
    • what time do you get your kids to bed?Nairn

    Ok so here is two:

    - Almost drowned while saving my first girlfriend, nobody knew she can't swim.
We were with my brother and my dad at a local lake, when my bro decided to pull a prank on our air mat in the middle of the place. When there was no more air in it she started to panic. I did the most stupidest thing ever what you can do in a situation like this. Went under her and tried to push her up, at some point she was standing on my head while I was pushing mud with my legs. My dad saved us both.

    - For an entire year every day I went to the flower market at 4-5am to buy fresh Freesia. It was a bit tricky to get them in the winter :)
In a with you nor without you situation I had to drive by her place to work every morning so I decided to give her(and mine :) favorite flower every day. I had to make a deal with one of the dealers at the market since the flower market in budapest is wholesale only. One day the lady said that she is going to give me the flowers for free because she likes the commitment.

    • I did similar when 4 kids and a friend were drowning. Went under and bounced them all in from the lake bottom. Nearly died.sausages
    • how did they all simultaneously almost drown? did they all jump in at once, suicidal like?cherub
    • Big lake, windy day and they got blown out on 4 floating things then freaked out and all jumped on 1. Bad life choicesausages
    • haha, sounds like a crazy day.cherub

There is a 12-foot-wide, long-arm sewing machine in our basement that makes sounds like a transformer when you power it on.

After it was used for three days on a tradeshow floor, the company couldn't sell it as a new machine anymore. So, we negotiated a 50% discount as long as we: went to the tradeshow exhibit, a three-hour drive from home, on a Sunday afternoon, disassembled it with the exhibit booth staff's help post-show, removed it from the exhibit hall, and toted it back home.

I then spent the next 2 weeks assembling it in our basement.

    • I once help carry an industrial sized sewing/embroidery machine up a flight of stairs for a friend who wanted his wife to start her own business.fooler
    • She didn't start one and they divorced shortly after.fooler

I try and make as many opportunities to surprise or delight my wife and kids as often as possible.

When my son was feeling the grind at school and getting the ground hog day feeling, I randomly pulled him out of school on a Friday afternoon and took him go-karting. He still talks about it.

My daughter has been attending raves (doofs) and has shown an interest in DJing so I have ordered her a Pioneer FX4 DJ controller for her school laptop. (I also have put $100 a fortnight into each kids hidden bank account in case she needs to go Tomorrowland when she's 18).

I have made my wife a coffee every morning for the last 24 years. She doesn't like surprises but I manage sometimes.

There is nothing I could buy myself that would bring me more joy than I get from facilitating their passions.

    • * $100 a fortnight each since they were bornslappy
    • Does she like coffee? :)

      You da man. Inspiring post!

I bought a more efficient 2nd car since starting to see someone that lives 2 hours away.

I just ironed my nicest Burton flannel to meet her for brunch on her way through town today.

The ironing a shirt part is is far more out of character for me than buying another car.

I was in the city (Manhattan) yesterday for a shoot and I surprised my boys (and wife) with their favorite Chicken Shwarma from Omar's. I think I got a hug from my 12 year old.

I told Omar I was bringing it home to Jersey and he was impressed.

    • Shwarma is Life.

I want to try Omar's Shwarma.
