As boring as it can be, working in news media means my job is safe... for now. AI is banned.

I can feel redundancy coming. We have spent so much time templating, streaming in the name of efficiency that there's little creative value anyway. I really feel like this is my last job. Having 51 years old on your cv makes me about attractive as a fart in an elevator.
- turning the corner on 40 puts you in the same tinder-category, seriously thinking about switchingArchitectofFate
- Don't put your age on your CV WTF. And remove some old jobs so you don't look your age.Frosty_spl

So what opportunities fare there or a 50-year-old design systems designer with almost 30 years of experience, who was laid off and has spent the last 10 months sitting around and scratching his arse and playing video games?
My COBRA health insurance runs out in two months, and at this rate, I'll be out of savings by December. I should've started panicking earlier.
- all the good jobs are being outsourced to India, so I would move thereWallaWalla
- So sorry man.monospaced
- Network, and start freelancing, talk to friends... don't give up yet, hugs!OBBTKN
- become a whore - choose your hours, meet new and interesting people, the constant thrill of danger, and sex.face_melter
- start small with cottaging then work your way up to hotels. never go back to a client's home - danger will robinson!!face_melter

- Pick up the horn once in a while ya cunt!garbage
- I was in the same spot about a year ago.
I did the usual, updating the resume, updating linkedin stuff, applying to stuff via linkedin... no luck.exador1 - what DID work however, was the old network. a project manager I had a good relationship with needed a UI/UX guy on his team at new place...and voila...exador1
- then, an old workmate from ages ago contacted me about working on his app that's having some success...needed a UI/UX guy to take it to the next level...exador1
- so...what I learned was...it's the connections you have... the folks that ALREADY know you and like you...exador1
- what exador said.monospaced
- Have you tried freelancing using the creative headhunter agencies?Frosty_spl
- Also use Linkedin like it's your job.Frosty_spl
- Dang; chin up and just get back at it. Nearly a year of ass scratching / gaming sounds fantastic, though! A bit of a "reset"?!
You're NOT dead yet brother.ideaist - I would start learning ai workflow automations, like n8n, make or gum loop, then go after your usual work but with the skills to help clients leverage automatioslappy
- Cheers guys. Honestly the last 10 months has been to get my headspace in check because I was completely burnt out. Still am. But it’s starting to get real now.5timuli
