Tho additional light source (other than sun light) is very important,
don't fall into the expensive equipment trap. Physics of light don't change with the price tag.doesn't matter if you get a continues light or a flash. just get lights you have control over.

The main thing with product photography is u have to control specular light bcuz u tend to get bad reflections due to shiny objects. So diffusion becomes really important if the products have a reflective surface.
That's where the light box comes in.
