I used to write English text for a friend of mine. He has a music studio, and small record label. And whenever he needed liner notes, website content, press releases and so on, I would help him write it, as his English isn't great.

He just launched a new website for the company. The text is written by ChatGPT. Like, all of it. And I don't think anyone will notice.

I mean, I understand. It's convenient. It's free (I never charged him money anyways).

But I can't help but feeling a tiny bit hurt and sad for being unceremoniously replaced by a chat bot. It was an activity I did with my friend, that apparently isn't a thing anymore :)

    • yep a client did the same. i tried to get them to use a copywriter, they said "no, we've run our copy through chatgpt and we're fine with it."hans_glib
    • most of it was generically ok, tho in places it degenerated into nonsense, so i had to clean it up as best i could for them (not being a writer....)hans_glib
    • I gotta say, CGPT did a pretty great job on his site. Sadly :)jagara
    • This is the thing about AI, it's taken what we once believed was our sacred flame. And I welcome it for it.palimpsest
    • Why do you welcome that?jagara
    • Because it can give us insight into how our brains work by taking away the layer of mysticism. It can only help us move forward.palimpsest
    • I see your point. I guess I'm sad that I feel replaced and unneeded by a friend.jagara
    • Communication patterns are by no means a sacred flame. English by default is an inelegant amalgamation of borrowed phrases through centuries of reductionjonny_quest_lives

i want to create a browser plugin for chrome that replaces the default youtube player with an iframe

the iframe uses the youtube url for example (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v... to create an embeded youtube player with the following code

<here i inserted the standard youtube embed code for the above video>

the id of the element we want to replace is "player"

the dimensions of the iframe should be the same as the element it replaces

    • got my third strike on youtube... typed this in to Chat GPT4kingsteven

    When you ask ChatGPT:

How many "r"s are in the word strawberry?

ChatGPT will answer wrongly. ClaudeAI, also fails on it.

    WTF

  • imbecile2

How many "r"s are in the word strawberry?

    ChatGPT said:
    ChatGPT
There are three "r"s in the word "strawberry."

It's been almost two years since ChatGPT went mainstream....how many people are using AI in their job everyday?

    • I imagine if I was doing the sort of work I was doing 15-20 years ago, I'd be heavily using that shit. At least as 'clip art' content.Nairn
    • I use it, professionally, about once or thrice a month, including image generation. But that's more down to what I do, which ai isn't much relevant. Yet.Nairn
    • I use it for almost everything these daysYakuZoku

thing is a lot of people thinks everything that comes out of ChatGPT is the truth or reliable informations. Its not.

We used it for a specific thing i wont explain, but it ends up it was a bunch of fabricated informations totally unreliable.

So double checking could be a good idea for important stuff.

    • Yeah I catch it every once in a while spitting out total bullshitYakuZoku
    • exactlyHAL9001
    • But like any tool, you have to learn how to use itYakuZoku
    • Did bennnnnnnnn just recite the chatgpt warning as if we don't all know this? #mrstatetheobviousimbecile
    • "ChatGPT can make mistakes. Check important info." directly from the gpt window :Dimbecile
    • What's the point of using it if you need to recheck everything almost all the time?grafician

I am not saying it was chatgpt but it was probably chatgpt..

"Lionsgate has parted ways with Eddie Egan, the marketing consultant who came up with the “Megalopolis” trailer that included fake quotes from famous film critics.

The studio pulled the trailer on Wednesday, after it was pointed out that the quotes trashing Francis Ford Coppola’s previous work did not actually appear in the critics’ reviews, and were in fact made up.

Sources tell Variety it was not Lionsgate or Egan’s intention to fabricate quotes, but was an error in properly vetting and fact-checking the phrases provided by the consultant. The intention of the trailer was to demonstrate that Coppola’s revered work, much like “Megalopolis,” has been met with criticism. It appears that AI was used to generate the false quotes from the critics."

"What's the point of using it if you need to recheck everything almost all the time?"

For me the hardest part about writing something is the kickoff. Asking ChatGPT to write for you gives good example(s) of how to do so and how to structure the piece.

I'll use bits and bobs, cut and paste, edit bits into a final piece. So I'm using the AI outputs as 'notes' or a first rough draft - never as the final piece.

Or I'll write something myself then ask ChatGPT to check it over and see what it thinks. To do this more effectively you can ask the AI to assume a role and then review the work.
e.g. ChatGPT I want you to play the role of an expert in User Experience and review this report that I have written, how could I improve it?

You + ChatGPT + Grammarly = Win! for writing sh*t!

One of my colleagues has successfully used it to review data from a huge spreadsheet and find patterns which he then (obviously reviewed) and used in a report. Taking minutes rather than hours of manual datachecking.
WHY would you NOT want to work to this advantage?!

    • Idk I learned to write in schoolgrafician
    • Overall using these tools for anything production is bad - you think you save time, but again you must edit/cut/recheck everythinggrafician
    • "Taking minutes rather than hours of manual datachecking." Maybe that was HIS JOB and it will need just one error from Chatgpt & him missing it to lose that jobgrafician
    • We tried to use it for decks, generating content - it was so bad we deleted half, then heavy edited the rest. It's really not worth it for serious stuffgrafician
    • Not to mention if anything happens with ChatGPT then maybe 80% of "secondary" AI startups will disappear also :))grafician
    • Sorry to hear you've had bad experiences with ChatGPT. I think don't try to get it to do your work. Get it to help you do your work.microkorg
    • The more specific the instructions you give it, the better the results. And good data in = good data out.microkorg
