"I decided there's only one explanation for why Meta cares so much about the metaverse: It is simply an investment in future pandemics and other global catastrophes."

If you buy a house, it's called real-estate.
If you buy a house in the metaverse - is it call false-estate?
- even if real as in realty didn't mean it's immovable (not real as in existing/ reality) fake-estate would be funnierkingsteven

A researcher's avatar was sexually assaulted on a metaverse platform owned by Meta, making her the latest victim of sexual abuse on Meta's platforms, watchdog says.
A group of male avatars brought her in a room and suggested she turn off the feature that keeps them four feet then surrounded her. They were passing around a metabottle of metavodka.
The report linked to a video:

Mark Zuckerberg’s ‘metaverse’ business lost more than $10 billion last year, and the losses keep growing
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/02/…
It also says it’ll be 15 years before their vision is realised?
So yeah, a lot of us will never see it
- The stock tanked today, -26%, lost $200B in value overnight.
Doubtful they will last 15 years lol
That's like several lifetimes in techgrafician - 6%! Jesusscarabin

- Yeah they took the entire tech sector with them today...grafician

My crush on Spiekermann is so big, I don’t think I’m ever going to make it though this new Meta.
- He actually made a point about it back then:

It blows my mind that we’ve put these tech billionaires on such a high pedestal, so when the Metaverse concept is announced we actually collectively doubt ourselves and give Zuckerburg the benefit of the doubt.
Like how is it that we don’t all immediately see that the Metaverse is nothing more than the result of a big, bloated company that has run out of ideas?
- @nb But we do see it for the bullshit it is, haven't met a smart person believing this vaporware yetgrafician

Facebook founder and suspected alien Mark Zuckerberg held a virtual all hands meeting for his employees yesterday to explain the company-formerly-known-as-Facebo... updated values.
Most of the values seemed like your typical vacuous, corpo nonsense. However, he did end on a decree that raised a few eyebrows: Meta employees are no longer coworkers — they’re now “metamates.”

Is Metaverse already live?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news…
She said: ‘I entered the Horizon Venues metaverse as an avatar who looked just like me – middle-aged, blonde and dressed in jeans and a long-sleeved top.
‘The space you enter is a lobby, like a theatre foyer. Within 60 seconds, three male avatars – who all had male voices – came towards me and touched me inappropriately.

Are you on Metabook?
You know that's what eveyone will end up calling it.
Meta is already taken - meaning the new crypto meta verse of NFTs and on chain data.
The best thing for the majority of the great unwashed would be to actually Meet-A-Book, but I digress.

- It will remain Facebook. Meta was never going to be a replacement for the Facebook platform, just the company behind it.monospaced
