    @nb heres what id do.

    1. competitor research. use semrush or another tool to find what competitor blogs have in them and their ranking

    2. fresh keyword research. look for questions to answer

    3. have a catchy headline, but a different optimised title tag

    4. look at what ranks for your chosen topic in the top 10 ranked positions and copy down the sub headings and use those to build out your own content.

    5. cite your sources. link to non competing sources of any facts and figures to back up your claims

    6. deep link internally. make sure you link to commercial content

7.dont compete with commercial topics that rank commercial pages

8 look at micro formats. can you build out faq schema etc that can help you hold more space in the serp.

    9. get links to your content. both from internal pages you control (bot commercial content) and ask your outreach team to pop a few links into key pages

    10. revise. once content has bedded in (3 months) take a look at its performance in search console. you'll see queries that you can integrate into the content to improve rankings and also quick wins for title tag re-optimisation

    • oh forgot to add. low syllable count, and short sentences. use a tool like hemmingwayapptrooperbill

Why is it so hard to get people to tell the truth about SEO? Why the smoke and mirrors?

Re: My conversation with @TeamYoutube on twitter.

The rundown- I made a youtube channel. I noticed that my first two videos got only 2 views. I think something is wrong. I find this on the internet.

Then I realized that I was using my three sim card from the UK to connect to the internet during my first upload, and probably during creation of my gmail account the day before. Which explains why during my first upload my time settings were GMT instead of US central zone.

As you can see from the pic, it doesn't do any good to change your country afterwards, youtube still thinks I'm British, and won't rank my videos fairly unless I make British content.

I contact @teamyoutube ...this is my reply:

Following up: Your location impacts your audience but doesn’t necessarily mean it'll hurt your channel performance. It still depends on your overall content. We can't advise you to delete and create a new account since we don't mediate on this decision.

Note: We provide language and preferences for all countries where YouTube is available. We're also constantly expanding the ability for the product to reach more creators.

The default location is the United States if we can’t find your geography.

To change it, you can follow these steps:
    Tap your profile picture.
    Tap Settings.
    Tap General.
    Tap Location.
    Select your geography.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

    THEN A DAY LATER....

As mentioned in our previous reply, your location won't negatively affect your channel's performance. Also, from your screenshot, it looks like the info you shared was from a 3rd-party site. Note that we can’t confirm its accuracy. ~

So frustrating. You can't even get them to SAY algorithm much less give you any useful information on how it works, or how in this case, it didn't work. Why?

"Find your geography" You mean when you wrongly assume you know my country based on my ip address? Boy, youtube is gonna freak out when they find out proxies exist.

    /end rant

    • Try using a VPN IP address based in the USAutopian

@utopian its not changed im afraid.

    1. links to your content on relevant websites from relevant content

    2. meta data that closely reflects the content being produced - dont stretch to include fringe topics

    3. detailed content that is aligned with user intent

If I’m writing articles for the company blog, which gets no more than a few thousand hits, is there anything I can do with my writing to increase traffic? (besides writing good content that people want to read?)
