Arguments aside on the authenticity of ethnic food boughtoutside their native country anyone with experience care to clear up some long standing questions of mine?
Sushi/sashimi
Should you mix wasabi and soy together?
Should you dab wasabi onto the sashimi and if so which bit do you put on your tongue?
Same for soy sauceCurry
Is ordering two carbs a faux Pas i.e. rice and chapattis?
With chapattis and/or naan do you year a bit off and use it to scoop food or just dip In to sauce? Should you use your left hand as well as I believe culturally it's used for something else ;)#forgivemyignorance

I like a little rice and some bread (usually roti) with indian food. A whole fat naan and rice may be overdoing it (although I have been known to when shitfaced).
The left-hand thing is nonsense, who told you that? Never heard any mention of it in 4 decades of eating Indian food in the UK.
You live in Leeds right?

I recall hearing that mixing wasabi and soy sauce together was as insulting as putting ketchup on a steak in a steak house.
- Exactly. #thetruthisouttheretrooperbill
- Brilliant, I must tell my partner this - I always thought it was queasy and weird when she does it. *glee*detritus
- It's considered wrong for sashimi , you're supposed to put a dab on top. It's ok to mix some wasabi in your shoyu when eating nigiri.garbage
- That said, I put wasabi in my soy anyway because that's how I like it. Do anything with enough confidence and it's fine.garbage

If you go to a proper sushi house in Japan, you would be seen as a common uneducated fool to mix your wasabi with soy sauce.
In the case of sushi - typically the wasabi is between the fish and rice - only in sushi where the chef deems it necessary. If not, it's not to be eaten with that particular piece of sushi. You pickup the sushi and turn it upside down and very lightly dip the fish part in the soy sauce, tiny bit.
With sashimi if it's served with wasabi, then yes - a tiny bit, then dip in soy sauce a tiny bit.
If they serve wasabi with everything, you're at a low class joint, the fish may not be great quality, the wasabi is probably coloured horseradish and you will want to eat it to mask the poor taste of fish.
- < this. And the ginger isn’t for draping over everything, it was eaten before you start.MrT

Left hand in Indian is used exclusively to wipe bum hole. The toilet system is such that after a poop, there's a bucket of water or hose, using left hand you wash and rummage around your bum hole till it's clean. You subsequently only eat with your right hand.
At some airports toilets over in Asia area of planet Earth, you'll see a little shower like house to the side of the toilet - that's the thing for washing your bum. If you see a load of water splashed around on the floor -more so than pee pee - it's due to an Indian washing their bum hole - it's poopy water by the way, think about that when you stand in it.

Sushi/sashimi - Either
Should you mix wasabi and soy together? - Never
Should you dab wasabi onto the sashimi and if so which bit do you put on your tongue? - Yes. Either
Same for soy sauce - Dip the Sushi/Sashimi into the soy sauce sparingly. Never pour it on/over the top. Also, don't rub the chopsticks together.

- In Asia, fish and chips and Yorkshire puddings are a rare ethnic food, eaten by an obese population on a small rainy island.shapesalad

Just the smell of curry makes me vomit in my mouth.

just eat your food. to say there is one way to eat any food is silly. If these restaurants wanted us to eat sushi "properly", we wouldn't be offered chopsticks, as sushi is meant to be eaten by hand.
my knowledge is that soy sauce is unnecessary but if requested should only be applied directly to the meat, never the rice. wasabi should already be applied by the chef between the meat and rice when consuming nigiri, only adding more to the top to taste, again only adding wasabi to the top side of sashimi to taste as well. sushi is always to be consumed whole, never split.
Seriously though, how many of us "reset" our palate with ginger between pieces, or eat the fish in the "correct" order? Like I said, silly.
- +1 I mean, I do the ginger thing, but it's because it's what I want to do.garbage
