The last redesign into Berliner format was more interesting aesthetically and functionally. But this is also nice.
That BBC interview they mention is well worth a listen. She knows her shit. The Guardian has had so much backlash post Corbyn's rise because they haven't overtly backed him. Corbynistas seem to love a conspiracy more than most. Her explanation summed it up though, the paper has always backed ideas not individuals and parties.
The website isn't radically different though, more like a reskin than a redesign.
- the content is maddeningly inconsistent. There's so much good stuff that gets buried under a shitpile of Owen Jones and Polly Toynby op-eds.Fax_Benson
- I think it's quite a bold redesign thoughFax_Benson
- I think the Owen Jones and other not so great stuff the Guardian does is shared/boosted more than anything else on Fbook. The actual paper isn't half as badfadein11
- as the shared Facebook version of it.fadein11
- Apart from the time they ran op-eds backing rival candidates in the Labour leadership election and ran pieces which put Corbyn in a less favourable light.face_melter
- Or that instance they pinned their flag to the Lib Dems for the General Election and were made to look like absolute arses.face_melter
- hmmm. they didn't back rival candidates in the election at all. that's the problem with what Corbynistas tell you. Corbyn didn't want to be leader either sofadein11
- p'haps they were just stating the truth.fadein11
- Anyway off topic (my fault). The web design really isn't that different to the previous aside from fonts colours etc.fadein11
- @face_melter I certainly wasn't saying they are perfect. Far from it. All those issues did occur before she took over and they were losing money hand over fist.fadein11
- my point was just that they are not the evil conspiracy against Corbyn his followers will try to make you believe.fadein11

Apart from the slight clip on the left hand side of their logo (nngh) I've been enjoying it so far today/
- Hmm, not evident in fax's grab.detritus

I'd increase the leading slightly. I think it's 1.4 or 1.5, to my eyes 1.6 looks and reads better.
but otherwise S+
- < print version? 1.6 would look odd in a newspaper, I thinkGnash
- *splutters* As if hans would ever stoop so low as to purchase a print copy of the ..*spit*.. grauniad!detritus
- purchase? PURCHASE? one can pick it up for free in waitrose, yah? not that one evah does, of course.hans_glib
- haha, I had no idea..
http://www.waitrose.…detritus - i was in a Waitrose last Sunday, about 6pm, and wondered what a really long queue was for — the coffee, of course. Even at the end of the weekend...detritus
- i know - some people are so desperate for their freebies.hans_glib
- @gnash - i was talking about the screen version...hans_glib

Can’t speak to the new print edition (I’ve never seen it sold here in Munich), but the website is ... okay. I don’t love it, but it’s not horrid, at least not on desktop. On the mobile version, I find the excessive pin-striping obnoxious.

From what I can tell the overall website layout is identical to what they had before -- they just changed the header, title fonts and some of the colors. I like the changes they made though.

yeah, their layout hasn't change much at all. This post from 2014 about their container model and blended content is brilliant from a content strategy perspective.

The ad on top is waaaaay too big. Look ridiculous. Also they should keep the navigation onscreen. Having to scroll all the way back to the top just to move around is stupid and bad UX.
- disagree, no user interacts with nav while scrolling down. Scrolling down implies content ingestion and most users in media seldom click the nav...whatthefunk
- disagree. I may scroll down to partially read article and then move on.dbloc
- what about when they are done with that article. To keep them on the site, it's best to have somewhere for them to go.dbloc
- I work in media, less than 1% of traffic click nav. 85% of users bounce after reading 2% of article.whatthefunk
- Hmm ok. honestly just speaking from my experience on the site.dbloc
- I like having the option to move around if I want to.dbloc
- I hear ya, was just giving a reason for what you called bad ux. Left rail, right rail, and bottom of article modules are to recirculate userswhatthefunk
- got it. My experience was bad UX. Not necessarily the experience of others.dbloc
- ad was there before as well. not a great deal has changed in the layoutfadein11

At first I only noticed the difference in the colors.
It's nothing spectacular but it sober and clean.
I also like their structure.

I like it. The old site was a bit of a dog's dinner on an iPad and they've fixed that nicely. Haven't seen the print. Cool story bro'
