Hi friends,
I'm going to be giving a presentation at WordCamp San Diego this year on why sliders/carousels totally suck.
I'm looking for examples of reputable, name-brand websites that specifically DO NOT use a slider on their homepage.
I'm also looking for examples of websites that are practicing an offensive form of slider abuse.
Any links would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

As I sit here with a client who wants a slider on their website... and finishing up adding one to another.
I hate them too, but clients seems to love them and not care.

Dude - That's exactly the point of this presentation! To give us all some ammo to combat these stupid slideshows.
Maybe have them sit through http://shouldiuseacarousel.com/ ?
- All the ammo in the world isn't going to convince them otherwise. Trust me, we've tried.ArmandoEstrada
- Ha! Yes, been there. Too many times.nocomply

See, I think they still have their place — on my own site, for instance, which is a one-pager that benefits from plonking images that convey a range of capability straight in front of the user. They specifically can't really attach to anything, so there's no UI problem about losing important content links behind 'slide 3 or 4'.
Mind you, having just checked, I realise I turned it off sometime last year after making the site responsive and have clearly forgotten to find a lightweight, responsive replacement, so there's just one hero image .. hahaha, d'oh.

Thanks for the input. And yes, I agree sliders do have their place. That's going to be part of my presentation.
But I DO believe that place shouldn't be punching you in your face when you first fire up the website.
- The alternative to no carousel/sliders is to to get fired. Nobody client cares about the Norm-Nielsen polling results...robotron3k
- But clients care about results, right? Try some split A/B testing, slider vs. no slider, and see which performs better.nocomply

Speaking of, does anyone recommend a carousel script that can handle responsive typography as well? Like SliderRevolution and Royal Slider?
- Maybe roll your own? I use http://soliloquywp.c… or my own custom version of http://bxslider.com/… hacked to run off of advanced custom fields.nocomply
- Thats what I'm after, something i can roll myself with ACF.ArmandoEstrada
