Heeeeeey QBN :D
Me and the missus are heading to Amsterdam in a couple of weeks, only for a weekend. Gonna hit up the christmas markets and eat pancakes! :D
I know some QBNers are seasoned Amsterdamians, so...
What are some must see's for first timers?
What area would you recommend staying in?
Recommend any hotels or AirBnB's?
What are some nice romantic areas (bow chicka)? We dont smoke btw.
Thanks guys! :D

Haha ... you're going to Amsterdam for Christmas markets? That's like going to Belgium for pasta.
If you want proper Christmas markets, you have to come to Bavaria, like Nürnberg, Munich or Passau, for example.
Also, I suggest going to Italy for pasta.
- haha we were planning on going for a weekend anyway! German christmas markets are next years plan! :DHombre_Lobo

Hey Hombre!
I live 7 years in Amsterdam.
One weekend is short but as you don't smoke can be enough ;)Depends what your priorities are.
I need some time to compile stuff as I'm working right now but can recommend the following:If you like Museums maybe give a try to the Stedelijk and to the Eye
But if you're there only for the weekend maybe it's a waste of time to go to a Museum...
You can skip the Heineken Experience and the Flower Market as well.
I don't know if you want to go to some concerts.
But you could try Paradiso or Melkweg. If you like alternative stuff try the Occi or OT301
- Thanks so much mate!! That's ace!
Are the heineken museum and flower market overrated? my missus loves flowers!Hombre_Lobo - The Flower Market is just a big scam for tourists so to speak. There's the university's Botanic garden, now that's really nice.********
- Flower Market is nothing really special. Honestly. Heineken if you go for such a short period is a waste of time when you can see other things.********
- Sure it's interesting to see how it works and so but I would suggest you to read about it...waiting line...time spent in a visit and cross that information.********
- With all you would like to do there.********
- Thanks so much mate!! That's ace!

Stedelijk? nee! haha - I'm not a huge fan of that one, but love the Eye.
For territory to stay in, I always recommend Jordaan or De Pijp. Lots of stuff happening in those areas.
Like shopping? Check out the 9 streets
Coffee? Screaming Beans (in the 9 streets), Scandanavian Embassy
Amazing cookies? Van Stapele
Dutch beer bar: Arendsnest
Interesting food choices? De Pijp (just wonder)(btw, anyone who lives in AMS will now know where I live from those locations)
If I were there I'd love to take you around, but out of town for work at the moment :/

Hotel: I just stayed at Sir Arthur for a few nights and I liked it. It's not that big and a bit fancy, but if you like design-hotels, you will like it. Make sure you are on a higher floor or on groundfloor far away from the bar, since the restaurant/bar on groundfloor are quite busy/clubby at night.
- I don't know if it is cheap or pricey, it was a business-trip some company paid.Longcopylover
- Sorry, it's called Sir Albert. Not Arthur...Longcopylover
- ooo looks ace!! Thanks dude! :DHombre_Lobo
