My company has an office there. Due to obvious events in the U.S. where I've lived my whole life. I'm considering leaving.

I've seen that there are a lot of americans there. It's very modern, technologically and god knows I'd love to only live in hot climates with no seasons.

What are nice places to live? I prefer an urban lifestyle and don't like driving very much.

I know this is all very general but this time yesterday, i never expected to be in this position (this time). Thanks for any input.

America isn't yet fascist, whereas some people argue that Singapore is, right now.

Stay in your homeland and help keep it strong.

    • It's also INCREDIBLY dull, from what I've heard. Go for the ex-pat money, if you wish, don't go because your country did something you didn't like.detritus
    • Thanks. I'm just in an Amerixit mood now. Exploring options I know almost nothing about. I could leave the US in a second Leaving NYC is quite another story.CyBrainX

driving is not necessary in Singapore. Their public transport is second to none.

Cars are ridiculously expensive there anyway.

I used to live there for almost 3 years
yeah it is a bit of a boring place, but a good location for get-aways even just for a weekend, eg. Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, etc.

    • is gum still illegal?Gnash
    • technically I think it is, you can not buy it anywhere. But unless you are caught spitting it on the floor, you should be ok.d_gitale
    • Yeah, I don't think I could go to a boring place after being in NYC for almost 20 years.CyBrainX
    • it is not THAT boring. Especially if you have not lived in Asia before, as there are many new things to explore and experienced_gitale

yeah, my experiences there (though quite a few years ago now) was that it was a little on the dull side. probably has one of my favorite cafes in the world though.

Friend of mine lives there. It sounds like bit of a cultural backwater if you're coming from a diverse western metropolis, but the real bonus is that you're a short, cheap flight from lots of amazing places.

They have shit loads of holidays / benefits. I don't think it's quite as draconian in terms of law and order as it often sounds (as long as you're not a complete idiot).

    • yes...but it is actually the most western and diverse city in all of SE Asia.
A lot of expats from most of the world and the region of course.

I was there a couple weeks ago. Its an impressive and futuristic city if you can afford to live there and can stand the hot climate. Feels like you are living in a planned utopia run by a giant corporation.

As others mentioned it would make a nice home base to explore SE Asia since flights are so cheap in that region. $100 flight and you are in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Saigon, Bali etc.

    • Sounds interesting. I thrive on 100ยบ weather but my girlfriend is quite the opposite. How's the design industry there?CyBrainX
