- I still can't believe that the UK government actually created this slogan.utopian
- May I ask why? i actually think the UK's C19 branding's pretty good. It should be given it's the distillate of decades of socio- psychological insightNairn
- It's become so effective that they've changed it recently because of concerns people are too scared to do Anything.

From an IM with a friend just now:
Friend: i shouted at a lady
Me: hahaha
Me: how come?
Friend: she was playing shite patriotic music straight into our garden
Me: Patriotic?
Friend: I told her to stick it our her front door
Me: haha, brilliant.
Friend: vera linn and marching band shite
Me: Oh. On Friday?
Me: VE Day?
Friend: yeh
Me: hahahaha
Me: you cunt, hahaShould be noted that friend is Spanish and is, or at least was, a bit of a lefitst anti-fa anarchist type character. I dearly love the idea of him getting wound up on VE day, having no idea it was going on and why people were blaring 'patriotic marching band' music into his house.

this is good on some of the many upcoming problems for Johnson
- Bluejam4
Meanwhile ...
"The government has privately conceded there will be post-Brexit checks on goods crossing the Irish Sea, months after Boris Johnson insisted there would be no such trade barriers."
https://www.theguardian.com/poli…- A shame the EU was so ineffective and navel-gazing over the pandemic - they could have won over the british populace with very little effort had they triedNairn
- instead they seem to have simply managed to piss off even more of their citizens.Nairn

- I think any EU intervention would have been even worse ...Bluejam
- ... and i'm not sure how they would have won over the farages and gammons even if they had done a better job than the govBluejam
- I bet if you did a survey close to 50% of the population would think Brexit was done and dusted.webazoot
- I dunno, if some of those German planes that airlifted serious C19 patients from Italy and Spain had landed in Britain too, then.. no, no. You're right.Nairn
- I can imagine the spittling DM headlines now.Nairn

No idea how I ended up listening to this - must've seen Blyth's name on a random link and clicked on it sometime today, but anyway, this is a fairly interesting talk.
Disclaimer - I pretty much take everything Mark Blyth states at face value. So much easier than trying to have my own considered opinions on things (!)
- Relevance to Brexit - he goes on about the economic underpinnings of 30 years of London-centric planning and how that shaped BrexitNairn
- ..not that that's smoething that wuold be novel to most of you, i'm sure.
Except for you London Born & Breds :)Nairn - YT follow-up suggested vid is also good, more about C19 and economic consequences..

10 Then, when challenged, said they meant Wednesday
11 Then said we must go to work
12 Then said we must not travel to work
13 Then said it was all explained in the published guidelines
14 Then had it pointed out to them in parliament that they hadn't published guidelines
15 Blamed the public for not understanding the new rules
16 Then went on TV to explain the rules, got them wrong, and had to be corrected by Piers Morgan
17 Then went to parliament to explain the rules, STILL got them wrong, and had to be corrected by the opposition
18 Said we should wear facemasks
19 Then said we shouldn't wear facemasks
20 Then said - again - we should wear facemasks

26 Then said doctors were brave, but teachers weren't
27 Then had to watch as doctors said the teachers were right, and it wasn't safe to open schools
28 Then announced tests for kids but not for teachers
29 Then had to have it explained on live TV that infected teachers can still infect kids

I don't really have a problem with the pic of people on the beach. It's the summer we're going to have anyway - no foreign holidays, everyone crammed onto UK beaches looking for some space. I'd guess that most of them are 2m apart without the lens distortion and mostly within household+1 groups.
As bluejam says, lots of them should be at work. Trouble is, most people don't work or go to school outside on large beaches - the gvnmnt should be all over getting workplaces operating with proper distancing / hygiene protocols and with access to tests.
My partner works in a council run events centre and has had absolutely no guidance on how to operate safely - and then, crucially, promote that officially approved safety to the public. Furloughed the manager when they could have been busy making the place safe. Fucking idiots.
Our entire political class has spent lockdown fucking about arguing on twitter instead of getting this stuff done.
- Bluejam4
"Pick #brexit Pick being conned by inbred toffs telling you immigrants now trying to save you were fucking up your life. Pick exploitative slave labour wages in ‘jobs’ you will replace them in. Pick all the shite you didn’t read on the side of a bus. Or don’t. It’s picked for you."
https://twitter.com/IrvineWelsh/…- Choose, poorly, to pastiche an irony-laden criticism of modern society from TrainspottingNairn
- oh, haha, I didn't even see the Irvine Welsh tweet :)Nairn
- Why does it increasingly feel like we're stuck on one of the shitty ancillary ships in the ever-dwindling BSG fleet?Nairn

JD Wetherspoon pubs to reopen with staff in goggles post-lockdown
https://www.theguardian.com/busi…Brand of pub aside, who the fuck would want to go to a pub with all those restrictions in place. And for people working there, they should probably be paid alot more.
- goodluck with social distancing and pissed peopleBluejam
- "who the fuck would want to.."
When was the last time you were in a Weatherspoon's?Nairn - 20 years ago ... occasionaly pass by the one in Hackney, opposite the town hall, interesting crowd for sureBluejam
- cheap pint surrounded by plastic walls and employee telling you to 'keep your distance' ...Bluejam

- It's a shame we don't live in some Lem-like world where there are love bombs we could throw into ^that pub. Resultant orgy would be hil-ar-i-ousNairn

- I was in the supermarket last night and they had workmen in making DIY partitions for the tables in the cafe there.webazoot
- "Ten hand sanitiser bottles per pub."webazoot
