Just putting it out there as 'research'..... I've always wanted a really, really stupid car like this..
Course I'm far too sensible and don't have the balls to actually buy one, so never have. Of late, I've been thinking that there could be mileage in getting one to hire out. I live in Cornwall so there are plenty of bums in the summer who (you'd think) would like to hoon around in one of these for a few days? Not sure this is a seriously good business proposition but it might just justify purchasing one for me to have a little fun with. What do you think, would you go on holiday, hire something like this?

If I'd go to Alaska I wouldnt hire such a car. But when one is on, lets say, the galapagos islands, I bet its amazing and fantastic.
Because of the nice weather and the awesome pelican farms.

not a bad idea, but think about how people drive rental cars already. Then if that rental car is capable of hitting bigger bumps and jumps, they may jack it up even more. I would say you would need some pretty good contracts for them to sign so they don't bring it back completely thrashed. I have rented them in mexico, but they were piles and it didn't matter if you messed it up because it was already messed up.
They are so fun though to mob around in.

Are those even made for the street? I've only seen them on sand dunes and the like.
- Thats why I mentioned the galapagos islands.sureshot

Yeah, these are road legal and to be fair, would probably see very little rough stuff.. Looks rad though, right?! What do you think of the idea??

I feel like in traffic on streets it would be awful. Exhaust and all kinds of noise and junk in your face. Meant to be driven with a helmet because of it. On the street it wouldn't be fun. Plus they are louder and more obnoxious than motorbikes. Cool looking I agree. Just my opinion.

Digging the feedback - although not exactly lots, it ain't resounding NO!

If I were to ever rent one of those, I would opt in to the extra upcharge for insurance because I would absolutely, positively, beat the holy hell shit out if it. You have to imagine every idiot like myself would do the same. The life expectancy of one this thing couldn't be more than a month before it breaks down.
3 days if you get a bachelor party of Texans who rent it for a weekend.
- those things are meant for taking serious damage and not breaking down, in the desert... I highly doubt a night out on the town would even scratch itmonospaced

I've done the dirt track thing a few times and it's fucking excellent. Never hired one and drove it away though, but it does feel like you'd wrap it round a tree. So much fun to drive though. It'd be excellent where you live... DO IT!

They're called 'dune buggies' or 'sand rails' out here in AZ. Some are street legal (see them all time moving through the city)... some aren't (considered ATVs)... doesn't seem to matter about wheels / windshield... it all comes down to a sticker (and how much you paid for that sticker).
So—You can rent them / buy them here and drive on street or in the desert... just depends on how they're registered...
... and yes... these are mad-fun to whip around a dirt track on... just be careful in the desert if you're not familiar w/their maneuverability... they do roll easy if you're driving like an asshole. :) (rolling is kinda fun if you're strapped in correctly and are a little mental)
