Holy crap this was good. Way better than Hateful Eight, and I enjoyed Tarantino's film. I wanted the film to keep going. What a great period piece.

I loved this film. So relentless, brutal but overall beautiful to watch. Every frame really was a piece of art. And fuck, Leo gets battered by a bear in what is the most amazing fight scene ever.
- Holy crap that bear scene. Agreed it was fucking amazing how realistic it was.instrmntl
- Wow! Intense - I'd love to see the behind the scenes on how that was achieved. I'd say some sort of mechanical arm + CGI-kappa-
- i didn't read it but there's a blog post around on how they got the bear to do itscarabin
- I read in the Wiki they didn't use CGI.instrmntl

This was good, not great. I would agree that the bear scene was the highlight - the rest was somewhat predictable and Dicaprio wasn't the best, I found his makeup and facial prosthetics highly distracting and it really dragged out.

Leonardo doesn't win an award for this or something f****** wrong. That bear sceen though I saw the training of it but that scene was nuts
- _niko3
seriously, he must have fucked someone's daughter on the academy...or all their daughters probably.

I'm dying to see it. Need to get a babysitter some Friday night to watch our kid so we can go see it. I'm fascinated by what I've read of the production, especially only using natural lighting. It takes a special kind of director to pull that off - financially and logistically.
- meffid1
Possibly one the the best films I've seen in the past year.
It's not comparable to Hateful Eight at all. They're not even worth mentioning in the same paragraph. They came out at the same time, that's the only similarity.

Just saw it. Leo was incredible in it, I really hope he gets the Oscar this time. The agony and pain was so intense and he played it perfectly.
The bear scene was so powerful, one of those next level scenes that takes movies to a new height.
I read that cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki used only natural light for the entire film. The light was gorgeous! there was one particular scene where, as the action was happening, the light of sunrise was creeping across the scene to finally light up the entire shot.
The story was good but to be honest I was more focused on the technical aspects of the film. lol

“It also allowed us to (work) without any noise or grain between the audience and the actor,” Lubezki explains. “It’s a little like watching everything through a window; it’s clean, and there’s no texture between you and the character. I felt this was my divorce from film — finally.”
- Yeah. The timing of shooting with natural light alone deserves homage.teh

Yes a Revenant thread!!!
Saw it last week. Really is incredible. Still thinking about it.
a very very simple story, but masterfully crafted on all accounts. I thought I was going to hate the skateboard fish eye cinematography of Lubezki... but on the big screen it doesn't feel like that, works perfectly.

I have a friend who is a talented screenwriter, and who's opinion on such things I value pretty highly, and he said it was the best film he's ever seen. Quite a statement...

So, the Oscar will go to the bear?
- I'm looking for the making of that bear scene.teh

It was a very typical 70s Hollywood movie with a Hollywood ending, well shot though...
...also, didn't someone mention it was a remake of this?
