Okay, I forgot how Windows works...
Riso Rinc 3 installed and Drivers installed.

Now I have to try another cable or try to connect it via CUPS.

    I'm so fucking close.

In the meantime with all the boots and stuff in between I dissembled a iMac G4 and replaced the hard-drive...to no success, guess the problem is the logic board.

    But that was fun!

    • maybe it's the usb to parallel that messes it up...usb (serial port) is COM1, COM2,
parallel is LPT1. maybe you can tell the driver to use COM instead of LPT ?
      uan
    • just an idea... if you have all drivers and shit installed, but it doesn't see the printer, maybe it's looking at the wrong portuan
    • hey uan! thanks for your input. i downloaded a couple fo usb-to-parallel drivers for win xp before reading this cause that's also one of my guesses
      ********
    • i added two printers, one via USB and the other LPT. one gave me a there's not enough paper message but that's not true!
      ********
    • someone suggested me to get a WIN XP laptop but I'm still refusing! that's my last resort!
      ********
    • my friend's Riso's (she has 3) all have firewire ports...fuck me!
      ********
    • Look into an external RIP, perhaps -- I assume you're using the embedded controllerGnash
    • what do you mean by embedded controller? The Software it seems works with Riso files?
      ********
    • Any RIP suggestion?

    • Riso has external RIPs (controllers) that may be able to bridge the gap for you. Might find some on ebayGnash

    • Maybe these guys have a solution: http://www.efi.comGnash
    • thanks Gnash!
      ********
    • fuck those prices...LOL! For that money I can buy a Riso with Firewire that will probably work...hm...checking EFI. ;)
      ********
    • I know, right? these old RIPs should be way cheaper if not freeGnash
    • I'm stuck. I even checked and changed the Info.list for the P2303 usb-to-parallel driver. The machine seems to need a special network card to work with mac.
      ********
    • I found one for 400€. To work via Ethernet. Somewhere I finally read that connected like this if here's no driver for the printer one can forget it.
      ********
    • MAcs simply not work with Parallel. And VirtualBox or other VM can not change that the connection is actually with a Mac. Weird cause it's a software prob.

    I did it!

So my ultimate try before buying a RIP was to buy an old PC with Windows XP.

I tried it before with a Win XP but because it was someone elses computer I didn't hack it.

I bought a IBM Thinkpad X31 with a Dockingstation and Parallel Ports for 50$.

I tried the usually cables and drivers and nothing.
Then I went to get a Parallel cable and after two tries...voilá!

RISO is receiving and printing data...yes!!!

You should have seen my face when that Squirrel started running into Master Mode :)

    • Now I will use the IBM as printing station after I connect it over the network to my Mac Pro.

    • We've finally decided to upgrade a CNC controller to USB because dicking around with WinXP and Parallel connections just isn't worth the time any more :\detritus
    • eg. Our machine is caught in an 'activation loop' - it's a legit copy, but can't be activated, so we have to reset the counter every 29 days...detritus
    • ..except at xmas we had a lot of downtime on the CNC, so it flipped over the 30 days = full re-install. And this isn't the first time either :\detritus
    • Anyway., have fun! :)

(And DON'T let your XP box ANYWHERE near the the internet! (!!) )
      detritus
    • hey detritus, I hope you guys manage that. i was "forbidden" by the people running our server to connect the XP to House's network...hehehe!
      ********
    • and thanks, I really plan to have fun with it!
      ********
    • good newsGnash
    • yes good news Gnash! and thanks to everybody for their input.
      ********
    • lol how did i miss this? :D
usb to parallel cable, a vm with that xp could do the jab
      ********
    • but i see u already sucked with that lol :D

With regards to Giclée printing - what's the finest line thickness it can print?

Eg, you have a 2cm long black stroke in Illustrator, no BG, is 0.1mm too thin? 0.05mm?

    • Ask the printer?OBBTKN
    • 0.05 should work, but i wouldn't go with that.
0.1-.2 is fine, a decent visible line starts at 0.3

Surely in the year 2021, a better, more simple process could be conceived rather than having colour profiles for:
    the monitor
    the input device
    the document working space
    the printer.

    • I hate all this... Just confuses the crap out of me and I have no idea if I'm doing things right.shapesalad
    • I have an ICC for the output printer. I've no profile assigned to the working space. I have no idea if I'm doing things right... Black (K) is looking brown ffsshapesalad
