I'm trying to figure out how to create something like a saint spill that is dry and solid but real looking.
I'm trying to create a pool of gold for an installation.
I found this as an example where the guy claims it's urethane.
http://www.dougz.com/new-stuff.p…But i don't know what kind of urethane. I'm also looking for something that is or can be tinted to be metallic glossy gold.
I'm going to try acrylic paint but I've heard epoxies can do the trick.
can anybody suggest or recommend some materials.

You can probably find something from this company that you can probably tint, and use. http://www.smooth-on.com/Urethan…
- looks like a good resource. that 'cast-able' epoxy looks interestingGnash

- I've used bartop lacquer before. very thickk. It's the stuff they use to pour over coins, paper clippings, small artifacts...Gnash
- or was it bartop epoxy....?Gnash
- model makers use it to fake water, rivers, etc, as wellGnash
- ya, it was bar-top 'epoxy'

Why don't you just get some gold and melt it down and then it will harden once you leave it out?
What are you, poor??

Golden Paint makes a ton of mediums. You could probably go with silkscreen medium, tar gel, maybe -maybe not- self leveling gel.

we used a lot of regular house paint for that kind of stuff. seems to work fine. I feel the older the paint the better it works.
i would probably use Polyurethane or Shellac and once dried spray-paint it golden.
Krylon makes a nice gold, personally I favor Montana paints.
make sure you make your spill on something that'll release easily like cellophane, waxed baking sheet, etc.

my first thought is to varnish something think, wait for it to dry/thicken a little and then turn it sideways/upside down etc
but I can't open the dougz link so I have no idea what I'm talking about

Melt wax or hot glue and spraypaint it.
