I was invited to properly learn CSS to be part of a pioneering project.
I will also need to have basic notions of HTML, obviously, Python and probably Django. My role is to design the web interface of a network project between four technology institutions.
This is all true.
My question is:
Will that make me an UX Designer?

How is it that you fool don't know what UX designers are and what their value is. Pull your heads out of the advertising butthole and look around for once.

This guy doesn't seem to get design at all...
"Not to throw Dieter Rams under the bus, but why is it long lasting? Why does it matter that we come up with something that will be a static thing that we need to stay with for years?"
Geez, let's reinvent the button just cuz data. If it works it works, no one's questioning the wheel anymore. He doesn't seem to understand that there are fundamental truths to human interactions that once discovered because enduring concepts.
He speaks like a junior (or just plain bad) UX designer. The bad ones always want to test everything to get at an answer and have no idea what the outcome will be while the good ones just get shit done... now this may seem counter-intuitive to the whole "data" concept but the fact is we all have to operate under a budget. And spending too much money on the details means you don't get the core done... and that takes intuition and experience (read talent). In a purely academic setting, please go ahead and turn every stone, but this is a business we're trying to run here and your paycheck doesn't grow on a tree.

Dev:
Ok...we'll need buttons and screens and scrolling and stuff and shit and whatever....yadda yadda yadda....

What would be most helpful to mom to enable her to shop if she's pushing a shopping cart containing one screaming kid and and has another screaming kid in her arms?

So, this article has stuck in my craw. Partially because I commented on it and now I get emails every day reminding me that it exists. Utopians existential crisis about User Experience aside (no offense man, I get where you're coming from), I put down my response to this the other night and I'm trying to determine if it's worth my time to post.
Probably not, but I'm counting on you guys for a sanity check. I just hate that this shit is out there, and that some client will see it and use it as fuel to take down some designers work.
Anywhere here's my response. I'm passing it on to a proof reader as I'm certain it needs it. Ignore or comment here as you see fit.
Cheers.
