Riviera Maya, Mexico (in the Caribbean near Cancun and Playa Del Carmen). Tulum, Chichen Itza and Xcaret are nearby as well. Get an all-inclusive resort and you have a guaranteed paradise experience. My wife and I did that and it was absolutely perfect.

@BusterBoy We live in LA. The wedding budget is creeping up so the cheaper the honeymoon the better. But we do have about $3000 worth of AmEx points to put towards this. We're probably willing to throw in another $1000-2000 if necessary. A bit more if it's really worth it.
I'll definitely look into Mexico, but we were hoping our AmEx points could get us even further away. Hawaii/Mexico seem so next door, but they are pretty great places to honeymoon. We're trying to figure out a way to make the South Pacific, Asia or Greece work.
- Hawaii is 5 hours from LA; it IS America, but an island like Kauai isn't as gentrified. DO IT! ; )ideaist

Looks like the fiancée can't take as much time as we originally thought she cook, so far away honeymoon is postponed.
Instead it looks like we're doing a couple nights in New Orleans, then a few nights in Napa and San Francisco (and possibly a drive down to LA).
Any food recs, hotel recs, things to do recs or bar recs are much appreciated.

"honeymoon ideas" or "honeymoon is over ideas"
your "need to get away" sound misleading

Going to look into a lot of these suggestions. Keep them coming!
Bali is on our list (or Tahiti or Fiji) if we can make it work with our budget. How long did you go for? Is it mainly relaxing on the beach or is there enough to do there to keep you busy?

To my wife I pitched a "infrastructure honeymoon" to Panama which would basically be spending five days along the canal looking at boats all day. Didn't go very well, went to Costa Rica instead.
