The purpose of society has always and always will be to feed the one at the top, may they be government, kings, guru, shaman, gods, etc
even looking back to the farthest known history, we find some societies that were based on a fair exchange, but they usually didn't last long,
than you have thousand of years of serfs and lords, kings, pharaos, priest, presidents, bankers, reptilians, etc..
nothing has changed, nothing will ever change because they've got the whole "divide and conquer" control system pretty much locked down, gays vs religious, black against white, climate deniers vs enlightened climate scientist....
"but Georges, we can revolt and take them out",
There's was this british movie about the french revolution and the king and it's court were yelling "OMG, the people are revolting, the people are revolting"
the joke is that when we the proles say "we are revolting", it's an insult to ourselves and only the well educated get the jokes,
so yeah purpose of society is to make us controllable and easily categorisable like livestock

Crush your enemies.
See them driven before you.
Hear the lamentations of their women.
... And BBQ.

This like asking what is the meaning of life. There is no brilliant order to the universe. You'll drive yourself mad your whole life looking for something that doesn't exist.
Just do what you need to be happy and play nice.

control - to make sure people dont kill each other for resources.
- I think it's the contrary, control of the resources in very few hands, so the normal citizen can fight over it to the death, but you're rightgeorgesIII

I think some of you are way too negative...if anything we have the best of both worlds today. You can go off and live in the woods if you want. You can renounce your citizenship and leave the country. No one is forcing you to do anything.
Read Steven Pinker...violence is going down, people are more free than ever and living longer.
- Agreed. Life gets better & better (on average) for everyone on the planet, and it will continue to get better.nb
- Meanwhile, we'll probably always look at "the good ol' days" through rose-coloured glasses and complain about the present.nb

- I agree somethings get better but at the same time we are contributors to building a Orwellian nightmare/ ie paradise for psychopathic elite.yurimon
- This just isn't true - Generation X were the first generation to expect LOWER living standards than their parents... and its worse for later generations - how are you evaluating this opinion?fadein11
