NFL teams visiting Gillette Stadium, deflated balls are the least of your worries. The New England Patriots apparently are devious, rule-bending jerks. Even building Patriot Place, the shopping plaza surrounding Gillette Stadium, was merely an elaborate scheme to help head coach Bill Belichick cheat, according to Sports Illustrated.
In a column framed around the accusation that the Patriots deflated balls in Sunday’s 45-7 AFC Championship Game win over the Indianapolis Colts, Sports Illustrated listed many other ways in which the Patriots “cut corners.”
Here are some:
– Patriots staffers who supply the visiting team with towels eavesdrop and report back findings to the home team.
– Opposing coaches put locks on their locker room to prevent Patriots staffers from walking in to grab play sheets.
– Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t follow the unwritten rule to run by his ineligible formations with the league office before running them last Saturday
– Belichick instead ran it by NFL referee Bill Vinovich before the game in hopes to confuse and intimidate the official.
– And the best of all: The large monitor outside CBS Scene restaurant in Patriot Place only is visible to the Patriots’ sideline, which gives Belichick and the Patriots the advantage of being able to see replays.
Keep in mind that there are monitors in coaches booths, and teams have a person assigned to watch replays to see if a call on the field is worth challenging.
The column also includes this line: “Maybe some of this is overstated. But the perception is real, and it is not totally unfounded.”
The NFL will decide whether the Patriots cheated or not by deflating balls. The investigation is expected to take time, and a verdict might not be reached until next week. Sports Illustrated’s Michael Rosenberg probably won’t believe their findings anyway, however, because “without hard evidence the NFL probably doesn’t want to embarrass one of its Super Bowl teams.”
That must be why the Patriots haven’t been punished for any of their other dastardly tactics listed above.

One group of guys took a ball to the other end of a grassy field more times than another group of guys. Now what? We all analyze the bullshit for a couple days and then forget about it. Rinse and repeat every year. Other people get paid big bucks, and you're left wiping Dorito crumbs from your stupid goatee.
Why obsess over pro sports? So much time is wasted on them. Sitting on couches watching other people accomplish things. Go accomplish your own things, and stop feeding these millionaire players and the corporations shoving products in your face. Idolization is stupid. Go do something productive to better yourself instead. The Super Bowl was 10 minutes from my house. I didn't watch a second of it. Rode 30 miles on my bike instead. Had an awesome time.
Ok, ok... watching the Super Bowl as a social gathering is fine I guess. But the people who religiously follow "their" team (btw, comprised of players that aren't even from the respective cities) have lost perspective on life. This goes for all pro sports.
About a week ago I overhead a group of guys arguing for a full hour about a soccer ref that made a bad call... some player was/wasn't offside. Sounded like such a waste of time. Why is it so important that a team you favor accumulates more points than another team? How is this important to your life? Do people watch sports just to have something to talk about with other men to avoid empty silences and feelings of awkwardness?
Jeez. This post was a waste of time.
- Nostalgia? watching games as a kid or with your dad, pretending to be your heroes, maybe we want to hold on to those feelings._niko
- agree with your post btw, often question why i'm still into this shit. ridiculous. But still._niko
- actually now that i think about it, it's gambling. 100% gambling._niko
- WTF. You are taking this way too seriously. It's for FUN and being with friends. have u heard of awesome entertainment?iCanHazQBN
- Effing Katy Perry was there. Really tho it's good to unwind and watch some ball. That's why people do it.iCanHazQBN

I'm not sure if it's human nature. I think people have been indoctrinated to care about pro sports from a young age. Like religion. They care about it because everyone else does. "Everyone seems to think it's important... so it must be important". When really it's just something pointless that's marketed very well by the media and corporations... and we're falling for it.
I know for some it's just about entertainment. A passive interest. Like going to a theatre play to see what happens, simply for enjoyment. But the people who ramble on about the results and bad calls... the ones who argue and have to dissect everything have really lost it.
I still don't understand the allegiance to a certain team. You know those players aren't actually from your home city, right? Why give a fuck? Imagine if they actually were from our cities... hell, I'd be a huge pro sports fan.
- Seriously, who are you trying to convince? Yourself?ETM
- Who cares what others do if they are not harming you. Get on with your own life.ETM
- I am sure some think this was a ridiculous waste of time: http://qbn.com/topic…ETM
- But that's their opinion. Let them have it.ETM
- What's with the personal attacks?iCanHazQBN
- That's my point anyway. It's a project I created. Whether it's good or bad, or whether you care or not doesn't matter.iCanHazQBN
- I did something to better myself, attempting product design. I learned from it. I added value to my life by doing it.iCanHazQBN
- Not a TON of value, but it's SOMETHING.iCanHazQBN
- I have a hard time in seeing the value of watching OTHERS accomplish things while wasting your own life away.iCanHazQBN
- Watch football for passive entertainment, fine. It's these obsessive sports fans that have lost perspective.iCanHazQBN
- Oh, and they are harming others btw. You should've seen the pollution created by the Super Bowl around here.iCanHazQBN
- And they screamed and they yelled and cheered for their team and the noise kept me up!... LOL you pussy Presta.iCanHazQBN
- ok sorry for mocking you. but you sound like youre whining about nothing.iCanHazQBN

There's so much shot going on in the world right now mate...on top of that there's just the daily grind and how freakin hard life can be at times. For some it can be a real slog.
Watching sport is just a total release...where you can forget about all the other crap going on and just immerse yourself. That's what it is for me anyway, as well as the fact I've played a lot of sport over the years...I just love it!
It's not rocket surgery.
- It might be brain science though.ETM

I don't get the hate for the Patriots. Maybe I don't know some of the backstory, but from what I've seen over the years, they are a consistently great, elite team that plenty of teams would kill to play like for half a season.
I don't know why there's a mass dislike for dominant teams. Same goes for the Yankees. Face it, every single team out there would be perfectly happy to win year after year after year.
Again, maybe I'm missing something about the Patriots, but I'm glad they won.
- just the way it goes... hate the best :) (I happen to be a redsox fan who 'hates' these Yankees you speak of) (:PonyBoy

It's human nature. It's arrogant to criticize what people invest their time and interest in. I am sure many of those people think whatever you are into is an equally ridiculous waste of time. One can have a 'holier-than-thou' view of it, or simple tolerate or ignore what millions of people seem to enjoy.
Personally, I didn't watch much of it either, but by the same token, I could really care less that you took your bike out for a ride.
But if you enjoyed it, that's what matters.
