I don't see any 3D.
- joke?monospaced
- Sort of! I mean, it's a poster, you could draw it in illustrator, no?nb
- hmmm... pretty sure those are 3D modelsmonospaced
- Put on your 3d glassesPeter
- No way is that Illustrator.CyBrainX

That would be the work of Chris Labrooy, a Cinema4D user.

That said, most 3D apps can produce this kinda work. That answers 'what'. The 'how' takes all kinda skills from modeling, texturing, lighting, shading, rendering, and for good measure, mad amounts of kung-fu'ing

- Fo sho* ...Hombre_Lobo
- nice and bookmarked .. thanks for posting his site!02

that's dope

That's all creative work. The 3D parts are not all that complicated, but coming up with the idea and executing it is another story.
Any 3D program can do that, including free ones.
- Execution is not easy?omahadesigns
- Disagree. These ideas are ALL in the execution.babaganush

What is the best free 3D program to get started on?

This is the one that's been around for ages and ages:
- I started using it, and I have to say, it is simply the most unuintuitive 3D i've ever experiencedmonospaced
- it's like they tried to make everything work differently than it should, even "click"monospaced
- a simple extrusion is a lesson in patiencemonospaced
- blender is hard as shit,
gave up on learning it more than once, try C4D insteadGeorgesIV - lol, I've never used it, you get what you pay for, as they sayformed
- pay?CyBrainX
- you get what you work for, in case of blender.org .uan

Cinema4d is my go to for everything.. that shit is amazing
- loool0
any software can do it, it's more your skills that will make it good or no...you can use maya, cinema blender or max...it's all the same shit at the end...

I agree that this could be any 3D software plus talent, but as a visual designer I found C4D to be the most friendly of all the major 3D apps. The workflow, overall features and approaches just clicked. However all 3D software is *deep* and will require substantial learning time. C4D does have a fantastic community online. Tips, tutorials
and help are everywhere.

Looks like it was rendered in V-Ray, but yeah the 3D tool is mostly irrelevant they all have advantages and disadvantages and features over each other. Rendering engines make a difference, V-Ray has a bunch of features that put it above others for this sort of look but it's also pretty pricey.
The new version of C4D has a few additions to rendering/materials that push it a bit closer to V-Ray, the following images were done with the default renderer in R16
- C4d seem to be going hard to eliminate revenue going to external render engines. Looking impressive so farbabaganush
- Yes. People should know Vray is an external renderer, not a full 3D program.CyBrainX
- R19's ProRender is very promising. It also has a Progressive mode for quick results. Even if you go back to Physical for final rendering, this will speed you upCyBrainX

How long does it take an expert to execute posters like those?
- pinkfloyd-1
I'm downloading Cinema 4D "Prime", supposedly a beginners version

.
"How long does it take an expert to execute posters like those?"the first one, if everything is figured out (proofed etc.), hours not days.
the second one is more tricky, bt I don't think all assets are modelled from scratch in this one. the shoe might also be a photo. so it depends. a couple of days of fiddling around.
whoever said that the concept phase is the tricky thing is right imo.

- I don't know what it is, but I like it.

But what is it?detritus - I don't really know what it is either. It started out like this https://i.imgur.com/…PhanLo

@PhanLo - you dig 3D Coat?
I joined the learnsquared crew and have Jama's 3d course in the queue, but the interface kind of freaked me out...
I heard from a couple folks that it's actually easier than C4D, which I'm still trying to get used to...
Which tutorials did you rock?
- I found the interface a bit annoying at first, but compared to Zbrush it was still a lot easier. For organic modelling it's really easy straight away, but...PhanLo
- ...with some learning the hard surface results look really good too.
I just bought the 3d panorama course Jama did yesterday to do 360 drawing in 3d Coat.PhanLo - But the LearnSquared one by Jama seems like the best course to learn it properly. It has so many videos. Compared to C4D I find the modelling a lot more fluid.PhanLo
- Also Check out Fuad Ghaderi on Youtube, he has a lot of helpful tips too.

- check out www.marvelousdesigne…... it has a shallow learning curve. But for asset creation (helmet, pipes, etc), you'd need additional softwareseldon

3DS Max for arch viz, games, real-time
Maya for movies, etc.But you can use anything for anything, just remember that these are the largest and most used, so there are tons of resources, models, etc.
- good idea, maybe I can even find some already rendered movie resources I can change textures in after effects...or models i can use in elements3d.uan
- max is still used?
Maya is fucking horrible and bloated.
Learn what you can till you can turn pro and then just apply knowledge to the job at handmugwart - max is still used?
