Finally watched it last night after some friends told me it totally sucked, and others told me it was amazing.
Didn't love it, didn't hate it, definitely worth watching, an interesting experience. I'm curious to see it a 2nd time.
I think some back story reading might be necessary to fully enjoy it, seems like people who hated it had no clue what this was about or how it was made.
- ps i like Glazer's work, liked many things about this one, didn't dislike anything. Weird but honest way to put it!spl33nidoru

I think the thing that blew my mind was that I went in expecting the usual alien story, but it was a lot deeper than there's so much I only caught watching it a second time (like the ant at the begining).
Anyways, this is how I imagined the alien would adbuct us, one by one, methodically, with a smile.

man, i watched this film when it came out over here a while back, had to travel quite far as my local 9 screen shitty cinema didn't screen it!
i honestly thought this film was incredible. SJ was fantastic, eerie, unsettling, and very very dark.
there are a few scenes where i honestly can say that things happen where you are sat there and you're saying to yourself "no, surely not..."
it messes with your head, and that's what cinema and sci-fi should be.
if you can get into it, then by golly it'll have you by the hairs on your balls...

I've had the score for ages on my phone, listening to all songs on random is great, especially when a really fucked up piece from the film comes on...

Im still undecided whether i loved or hated this flick. Almost didn't see it all the way though - the scene (beach, crying baby/child) almost had me walk straight out of the cinema I found it so distressing (possibly a parent thing)
- yeah, alien don't give a fuck about our feelings :(GeorgesII
- yeah that totally made me question the whole thing. but what about the baby!cruddlebub

Is it a film about a girl that walks backwards all the time?

"That was built on stage. When the alien takes the victims into that black world, that threshold, the transitional place was a building in each case and was very heavily designed. The black world was entirely created on a stage on a black glass floor. Jon’s idea was a joining between the (alien) world and ours. The floor that they’re walking on was a complete reflection. We had a tank set in the floor of the stage surrounded by black glass and then a mechanism in the tank to lower the victim into the floor on camera. And then a system within it to counteract the overflow. Obviously if you put something in a liquid bath, you get the Archimedes effect and the liquid overflows so there was something in the tank that diminished at the same rate that the person was going in. The glasses were four metres by three so they were big pieces of glass painted black and it was a big area of eighty by sixty feet."

I was working on a pitch all day yesterday [ sunday ] in my office which is just off my living room - I can see my tv through a reflection on a glass door out of my peripheral vision.
Playing to itself on my TV and surround sound i had Primer, Upstream Colour in the afternoon and Beyond the Black Rainbow and Under the Skin by the time it got dark.
I sat at my desk the entire time smoking weed and watching and listening to all 4 films. Only when they had finished i worked on my pitch. At work this morning - all my colleagues think I've smashed it outta the park.
Boom!

big cock tease. gimmicky. but still alright. Payoff wasn't really worth the watch buts better than a tyler perry flick. best part was seeing that trip and fall that people photoshopped and laughing at the ah ha moment.

amazing amazing film. wow. glad I finally got a chance to see it in the cinema. can see it sitting right up as an all time fave.
Funny, a bunch of old ladies in front of me giggle as the lights came back up "that was terrible!" "I though it was supposed to be a thriller!" And some loud teenager laughs "that is the worst movie I have ever seen"... Sad really. Challenged with something and their tiny brains can do nothing but giggle and laugh to their friends. Similar thing happened when I saw No Country for Old Men.
- exactly! this film is a far far more complex piece of art than most will understand!cruddlebub
- no country for old men is also incrediblecruddlebub
