It seems recent to me.

Wait til you notice the ones that default to 20% or more as your tip amount. Fuck you! You get 15% like everyone else!

what country is that?
- Look at the content of the post. Look at the username. Work it out.set
- Tips still not much of a thing in the UK? I tipped when there, out of habit and got AMAZING pub service as a result.ETM
- I left a quid per pint and never had an empty glass.ETM
- Yes tipping is a thing over here, although certainly not for beer :)set
- yeah, working a bar pays way too well to deserve tipsmonospaced
- Here he isset
- that's what I saidmonospaced
- That's what he said everyoneset

Wait til retail stores start doing it to. Buy a shirt, leave a tip. It's the same thing.
- People who sell things like shoes totally deserve tips more than some other people who get them, but they never do.omahadesigns

I only tip for pickup at places I frequent a lot and you sort of get to know them. Other than that, no way. You don't get a tip for doing nothing just by asking, it's like begging.

Probably has more to do with the fact that it would be a waste to have a special "no tip" version of an automated receipt just for pick-up orders.
- Pizza places don't have service though.freedom
- Depends on the place, but still... I've never seen a CC receipt that DOESN'T have a tip linemonospaced
- retail?freedom
- It's standard in all restaurants, as the service is implied by the cooks and prepararationmonospaced
- The 'service' implied by the cooking and prep is called the mutha fuckin' price.ETM
- if you ever worked in a restaurant, which it doesn't seem you have, you would know that tips are distributedmonospaced
- distributed by servers to the other staff: prep staff, bussers, etcmonospaced

The tips in the US are just ridiculous. An entire industry expects you to pay waiters instead of the boss paying his employees. I agree with tipping WHEN I liked the service as a "thank you, I liked your service, here's a little extra for being a nice person". I can't understand the obligatory tip.
Why the fuck should I pay more for you to do your job?- it's just culture, and your outrage is how we feel about people not tipping outside the USmonospaced
- also, it almost guarantees good service, and when you leave a small or no tip, it's a clear messagemonospaced
- If the waiter worked without tips, they have less motivation to do really well, methinksmonospaced
- I didn't say against tips in general, only to something mandatory.ESKEMA
- Agree Eskemaset
- It's not mandatory if the service is bad. It's expected if the service is decent.monospaced

...just like in Japan. Oh wait.Peter

Are you asking me to take out my tip?
- My thoughts exactly!!!ohhhhhsnap

It's just the default receipt printout. You're under no obligation to add a tip for takout. I just put a line through it or 0 when it's takout.
- So why is there no tip line at clothing stores?freedom
- <monospaced
- jesus, because the default for a restaurant is not the default for retail? Is this shit really that hard to understand?hereswhatidid

I keep hearing that people tip out of solidarity, in order to compensate for low salaries. This sounds like some ghey socialist propaganda to me.
Thanks Obama!

harsh major pet peeve. it seems that almost every interac handheld has the tip instertstitial and very few have tip opt-outs. so you are forced to choose a % and hit ok (for 0%) so you can simply continue on to complete the transaction.
seems like i see it more and more now; the norm 'n super presumptuous imo. and i am the guy who tips 20% for any restaurant visit unless the server is an asshat, of course.

It's just a new standard. Great marketing, hype, etc., mostly started by the coffee shops that have tip jars (why am I tipping someone to make a coffee? Especially if I order drip! I don't tip at Subway!).
It annoys the hell out of me, honestly, but I hate that I screw the kid and it does nothing to the business owner.
I tip 20% too, for good service at a restaurant.
- stoplying0
I think we can blame Starbucks for this. They almost all have the tip jar at the register and that makes it okay.
- uh, nomonospaced
- No to blaming Starbucks? Or no to making it okay?stoplying

Fuck no. Guess who else I don't tip? Bartenders! I don't order drinks, I order beer. It takes two seconds to open one or two more seconds to pour one. Plus, it's already marked up 200-300% over retail. Oh, here's another dollar or two for doing jack shit. Fuck that.

I don't tip at Starbucks. But I do tip at Dunkin Donuts.
- i_monk0
Unless you physically bring me my food you don't get a tip. And you need to come back a few times to check, ask if I need anything, whatever, if you want more than the bare minimum 15.
