find out a bit of how the industry works by calling few places. how much percentage of the value of the gold they give you.
they will test it first to make sure its real by scraping it on some stone. this makes sure its not plated.then they will put somekind of liquid on the gold to test its gold.. then they will weigh it for the amount...
for the most part the gold buying business feels they gambling on the quality of the gold when they purchase. example.. impurities in new gold vs old.. impurities in inner layer vs outer layer... thickness = more chance of fraud of hiding low quality gold etc..
