No more Blockbuster video, end of an era. And by era I mean as far back as when I was renting Blade Runner on beta in the 80's.

It was definitely a big year for gaming. Beseide the announcements of both Xbox One and PS4 and the following discussion, gaming-franchises set new records.
With GTA V, CoD: Ghosts and BF4 the gaming world's most popular franchises set new benchmarks in sales figures as well as technology.
GTA V: 29 Million Copies, One Billion Dollars within three days.
CoD: Ghosts: One Billion Dollars (Sell in, means the $ that retail brought the publisher)
Bf4: Is expected to sell 14 million copies within the first weeks, which I find is a huge number for a hardcore multiplayer shooter, not really soft evening entertainmentTechnology: With next-gen, titles like Ryse: Son of Rome technologies as performance-capture are coming up and will be standard in the next 2 years. I think that by the end of the next-gen cycle we will se at least a tech demo that can only be seen as rendered by experts.
Also a big deal is how the developers start to integrate tablet devices and smartphones into the gaming experience. Example: In BF4, you can participate as commander on your iPad while sitting in the train. Spot enemies for your team, drop supplies, launch Rockets on targets marked by players on the field. Pretty amazing if you ask me.The gaming industry's numbers are now eye-to-eye with Hollywood while being one of the fastest-growing businesses.
