I don't know why I'm not figuring this out.
How do you copy a shape layer from one file to another, retaining the fill color? The only way I can figure out how to do this is to create a new shape layer in the destination file, add a shape, paste the copied shape, then delete the previously added shape. There has to be another way to do this.

can't you just drag the layer to the other file window?

select the shape layer, right click --> duplicate layer --> select file you want it to go to

- Yeah, but sometimes that posts the image in the layer way in the fucking hinterlands of the new image.boobs
- It will always go one layer above the currently selected layer in the destination file.CyBrainX
- If the two PSDs are the same dimensions, the layer will go to the same position. If not, it will be centered horizontally/vertica...CyBrainX

This is strange... First time it worked. Second, and third time, the layer duplicates in the destination file, I can see the shape in the layers menu, but nothing displays in the image area.
- Tried same process to another new file. Same thing: successful first time, fail every other time.mg33
- maybe check the fill/opacity level on the shapeand make sure both are set to 100? it always takes on the pre-existing setting.lvl_13
- Is the new file canvas smaller? Did it get copied into a folder?ORAZAL

Just drag it to another window and hold shift to make sure it goes to the same position.
If you use tabs then turn tabs off they're a terrible interface for Photoshop

this was always stupid behavior.. I have to make the exact same steps when I want to take a shape from a shape layer that has more than one shape, to be on it's own layer. You have to make new shape, paste it there and delete the newly created one. seems very stupid. Why can't the all mighty photoshop understand a simple paste..
Adobe cunts, always leaving a trail of stupidity in every update..- In the same document. Or duplicate it and delete all the unwanted, whichever is easier..ESKEMA
