Can be installed on PC or Mac.
Thoughts?
It looks a lot like OS X, would be cool if other players actually made a dent in the Desktop OS space... Windows vs OS X is kinda boring.
This is built on Linux, based on Ubuntu.I've wanted to try some sort of Linux Flavor for some time...
thoughts?

sorry for the double thoughts

whats linux like now? what apps are available. I used it in the 90's for tinkering with server stuff.
- Web browsing is much better, most of the software is the same though, GIMP hasn't changed muchanimatedgif

Aside from ripping off OS X visually, I assume it's just the same as every other Linux build: Limited software and driver support. I'd run Linux exclusively if there was anything I could do on it.

It's nice to have more options but after using this and other Linux based OS you will certainly notice all the time and effort that went into something like OSX.
The attention to detail in the UI is just not there in any Linux OS I have seen. Also it's a challenge to run Adobe apps on Linux. Other than that it's great though.

a agree it's hard to feel good within linux w/ a designer's eye. it's almost always missing the elegant fine tuning.

BUMP!
Curiously I just installed it today via VirtualBox.
I could have partitioned my HD to install it or not as Elementary OS gives the chance to install the OS with double boot features. But I want to try it first that's why I opted for the VB solution.
First installation was a bit slow.
The second is running a bit faster.I've been for the last 2 years thinking about installing Linux in my Mac in order to use only Open Source software.
But I'm too dependent on Adobe...So I decided to keep only graphic software on my Mac OS X.
And all the rest on the Linux OS.I really want to start using GIMP and Inkscape and other software instead of Adobe.
I know I can do it in my OS but I also want to depart from the Apple Universe.Just keep using they're machines.

oey what are your impressions so far?

Still too slow via VirtualBox to really have an opinion.
I'm trying it in my 2007 MacBook.
I have 4GB RAM and I'm using 2GB with Elementary.Downloaded two programs, took ages.
I'm partitioning my HD in the moment so I can make a HD installation and try it out that way.Luckily I live with Linux freak programmer/hacker, so in any worst case scenario I hope he can help me.
The only thing I can truly say so far is that it actually looks good.
I'm going on on forums to try to find a solution for the "being slow" problem.
I'll keep you updated of any developments.

Checkout Linux mint 17.

I checked out Linux Mint, actually it was my first choice but...

There are light weights for older/ smaller machines, I belive it is xfce.
http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=265…I got myself a little lenvovo laptop and have never gone back to OSX nor windows. I work in the VFX side of things so I dont have to put up with the Adobe though. Open sourse software is getting really good (if you dont use Gimp) and with with windows producing unsuable OS's and mac moving purely to IOS it's probably a good time to jump ship.
Great course here:

- Is Mint the same flavour of Unix as Peppermint? I've installed that on an old Netbook, giving it a whole new lease of lifedetritus

Also you can boot the entire os from a usb stick so you dont have to bother with virtual machines which always are slow and go wrong.

So...
I just installed the OS in a newly rested disk partition.
Organized, customized and installed new apps.So far so good.
Only the touchpad has some minor issues.
But with Wacom it's smooth as always.I used Live USB to run the OS on my Mac and then I installed via the try out.
Sweet.
VirtualBox was too slow and even from the Live USB was too slow.
Now lets see how it goes from here on.Thanks for the links and offered support mugwart!

And, my housemate gave me a Penguin pin :)
I'm very happy that I finally gave this step and hope from now on I get more into this.Spent like hours in the Terminal...hahahaha!
Feels like old times, a new world and it is in fact a new world for me.Now just need to tune things a little bit like using OS X Fuse and other things.
The app discovery and research is something I enjoy very much.
Which app is better for what.:)

I haven't even gone as far as the pin! Congrats on your new nerdisum!
