What are the cheapest and reliable hosting companies out there? A one where Wordpress would run really fast and smooth.

cheapest & reliable? I think you get one or the other in most cases, I use all of the following for various levels of cost vs. performance:
peer1.com (reliable with dc's in many countries)
fatcow.com (cheap)
Amazon AWS (fast and scalable)
mt (I don't know why I'm still with them)
fused.com (good support)

Actually my favorite is Linode http://www.linode.com/?r=3371ddc…
I used it for 3 years and find it always reliable. It's not the cheapest version though

Happy with mT, switched from Dreamhost. Stay away from DH.

Best support by far is godaddy, always available and will always fix your problem over the phone. Been nothing but happy with their service.
Other hosting providers have been a never-ending nightmare of support tickets, long waits and email correspondence.
- I can't sense if you are being sarcastic or for real. I had used Godaddy for myself and for clients: it was a nightmarezaq
- Godaddy is to hosting what McDonalds is to restaurantsukit2
- friendly, efficient, fast, always open, convenient, consistent and billions and billions served? sounds about right lol._niko
- That's been my personal experience anyway, they might be the worlds shittiest hosting company, but I've never had ..._niko
- any issues with them._niko

Digital Ocean vs Linode vs AWS

The problem with companies like Linode and DigitalOcean is that I have to learn how to become a fucking Linux Admin on top of everything else I do. I'd be terrified of fucking everything up completely.
