Any tabloid oriented (17x11) grid systems available online?
Finding a ton of 11x17 but no 17x11.

You should make your grid suited to the purpose of the design, not the other way around... just saying...

make your own.

m=margin
in the equation the ((x)m) segment allows you to choose how many columns get the margin, i always choose 1 less than the number of columns, but this equation can be edited to your practices

17x11 document in indesign.
make a text box that big to fit the doc.
enter # of columns. create custom margin widths too.
as long as you have it so you can still see the columns (CTRL+CMD+H on mac)
lock layer. it's basically a hack to make a grid.
then put artwork above/below it. easy to turn on/off.
i like to work in multiples of for: 24 col, 32 col. it allows for certain freedoms. dig?- Uhhhh. You are doing it wrong. Do this in columns and margins dude. Not text boxes. Facepalmmonospaced
- Hit W to hide show real grid. Use master page. Jesus Christ.monospaced
- You don't have to hack InDesign to have a grid. This is making me mad how bad your advice is.monospaced
- If you use InDesign like this jay, you need to take an intro class. It's offensive how you think you're using it right and you aren't.monospaced

@jaylarson
Forget everything you typed above. This is how it's done:
New document. Page size: Tabloid. Orientation: landscape.
Columns: #, Gutter: #, Margins: # (inch or so).
Click OK.Then, if you want to edit this grid, got to Layout menu and select Margins and Grids. You can set up a custom grid for each page, or if you're like me, you make all changes to Layout on the Master, and also add your horizontal guides there.
You turn it on and off by touching the W key.
- cmd ; (iirc) turns margins/guide on and off. w is output preview.i_monk
- absolutely correct, and W will switch between grid/layout and preview, much easier than just cmd-;monospaced

And people say qbn isn't useful anymore. Thanks.
- been stuck using a bad third party slug app that removes all control of said document creation.jaylarson
- omg, seriously?monospaced
- I can only control bleed, trim, and safe. Hopefully it's just user error.
:-/jaylarson - That plugin sounds like it ruined InDesign. Ditch it!monospaced
- dude, reinstall inDesign, no need for third-party plugin... InDesign works great as it is.k_temp
