    Forget everything you typed above. This is how it's done:
    New document. Page size: Tabloid. Orientation: landscape.
    Columns: #, Gutter: #, Margins: # (inch or so).
    Click OK.

    Then, if you want to edit this grid, got to Layout menu and select Margins and Grids. You can set up a custom grid for each page, or if you're like me, you make all changes to Layout on the Master, and also add your horizontal guides there.

    You turn it on and off by touching the W key.

    • cmd ; (iirc) turns margins/guide on and off. w is output preview.i_monk
    • absolutely correct, and W will switch between grid/layout and preview, much easier than just cmd-;monospaced
