^ This makes me think about a time when a former colleague, when we were asked to give predictions on web trends for the upcoming year, listed simply "typography" as one of his predictions.
"You mean branded typography using web fonts?" I asked, before reminding him that typography has been around since at least 1600 BC...
- Former = fired?fredddddd
- I know what he meant, though.mikotondria3
- We had him arrested fred.mg33
- So depressing when most of the industry is made up of mouthbreathers like thatanimatedgif

My fellow brethren. I bumpeth...
We are a talented lot, I think. Some of us even know how to use Twitter! We can code and design, we have tools and services at our fingertips. We have grand opinions, some needs and our numbers are dwindling. I propose a dream.
If some were to rise up and put forth a valiant effort, possibly converting brother Set's drunken, responsive design to a living, breathing site of code... and somehow hosting such a miraculous vision was come by with ease... would we not want to grasp such a heart-exploding vision of the future for ourselves? For our children?
So are we gonna have some fun here or what kids?... what say thee?!!

I offer my services if this project ever gets legs. I mainly do front end development but i can also get in the back end as well if we aren't doing that part from scratch.
Get some Node.js with Backbone.js soooooooo smooooth. (prays)

designing a site to be obnoxiously responsive is indeed horseshit. you see so many templates out there that just cram in as much jqueryness as they possibly can and in the end it's clunky and overkill. but if you fire up your big brain you can avoid such things.
i favour adaptiveness to get the job done usually... meaning just deciding on a few breakpoints and working within those and getting elastically responsive in the mobile end to respond to the many 'lil screens. depends i guess. zzzzzzzz

I'll strip the design right down to basics. Clean, functional, legibility first. Taking on board the suggestion of notes to the right of comments on the desktop view which makes sense.
I'll work with prophetone (and hombre_lobo if serious) on getting a basic build done. That'll be enough to get the ball rolling and people excited to be involved.
Then we can talk about the back end, database, membership, donations for hosting, then naming and branding the cunt.
- Continuity0
- you wouldn't. it would become something exciting and new. come aboard, we've been expecting youuuuprophetone
- i've contacted them several times over the years offering help/services. no response.prophetone

Anyone bored enough to make a few static html builds?
Could get the ball rolling...

i like where this is going, but i wonder if it will actually come to fruition

I like the idea of open membership personally, with moderation of course. Happy to put everything to a vote though.

What would you like if QBN had a theoretical 2.0?
- This could be a hint at a further developmentanimatedgif

Responsive or not, it would be nice to have a place we can all emigrate to once the overlords pull the plug. Not all of us facebook, and creating a new site would be labor intensive. What if we created our own subreddit? Or has this already been done? Just a thought, since it wouldn't cost us anything, and we could limit it to invite only if necessary. Plus, i.reddit.com is already set up for responsive.
- prophetone0
i was considering bringing set's mocks to life, as a starting point. and going from there. set would have to chime in on this.
- Hombre_Lobo0
I think it's gorgeous and would love to see it brough to life. Think you knocked it out the park set. It's minimal and usable but also has enough personality to be interesting without getting in the way.
- Hombre_Lobo0
However, given how the qnn owners arent very likely to do anything about and how we wouldn't want to infringe on any copyrights I'm assuming it will need an entirely new brand.
It would probably make most sense if the designer of the site came up with the new brand, for consistency. As long as set doesnt call it something like 'Designers are cunts!' :D
- qbnpro.comJG_LB
- branding would be the last step imo. which is backwards, but hey. that's light years away.prophetone
- so perhaps... NBQ.com?horton
- Hombre_Lobo0
In terms of branding, I wasn't saying we need a huge complex brand.
I was just pointed out we'll need an entirely new one. Something nice and simple.I'm sure set can create something sexy and apt.
- Hombre_Lobo0
Worst comes to worse, if the plug is pulled and the site goes down, shall we all agree to meet up here -

In terms of the new site being open to new members....
I do like how this is a closed community, familiar faces and the hilarious classic qbn in jokes. However, Im not old school by any means but, remember when qbn had way more active users, and I mean good users not the spammers. You would have some really cool stuff being shared, good discussions, and hell you lot even made a couple of books!
As much as I love this small closed community maybe opening it up would give a lot more potential. Some sort of entry process might be good, but maybe that's just elitist and defeats the point.
- Agreed, I kind of liked it when it was open in spite of the chaosukit2
- I can see both sides though. Towards the end the spam got really out of control.ukit2
- Yeh it's a tough call eh. Spam won't be an issue as we'll have proper mods, but quality users. Ant be guaranteedHombre_Lobo
- Can't be guaranteed*Hombre_Lobo
