Looking to get a gift for a 6 year old boy. Any suggestions?
I was thinking something architectural / wooden blocks / building, but not finding much interesting enough.

These castle building blocks are pretty great, but a bit on the expensive side:

my 5 year old has that and plays with it often. useful because there's an immediate problem you have to solve. also a bit expensive, though.
you can find cheaper sets if you just look for 'marble run', haba is high quality solid wood german shit.

Lego City stuff is great. Not themed, so plenty of options to build different models.

any of you ever had Meccano?
http://www.meccano.com/i loved this even more than i loved Lego...
i started with my dad's original set (!!), then we bought supplemental kits so i could build more stuff.the branded stuff they have now is lame though. back then you bought components and screws and tools and get basic guides to help you start out with models.
