"AIC should quit gravytraining a similar sounding singer to pull a check. "
Will DuVall sounds NOTHING like Layne. Dunno how familiar you are with AIC, but the similar voice you are hearing is Cantrell's, who sang on a good portion of AIC's songs (especiallly in the last years).
And it's ridiculous to expect 3 guys with a long standing musical relationship to just say "we can't do anything with each other any more" because Layne died. Expecting them to call it something else is just as ridiculous.
All that being said, i only liked a few songs on the first album with DuVall. This is a good song, but it could be one of only a few on the new album. i hope not. i'd really like to see them come out with an album that is good all the way thru.

I was a huge AIC fan, gave Black Gives Way to Blue probably 2 listens front to back. Not necessarily the pitch of the vioce, its the delivery, its Layne all over again. I couldn't deal. To the point of why should they quit? I dunno, Grohl didn't seem to have a problem moving on.
- Grohl was one guy who went on to do his own thing, even playing a different role in the band.locustsloth
- This is three guys who have a good writing/playing relationship. To throw that away is foolish.locustsloth
- i think the similarities in delivery may be due chiefly to the fact that Cantrell is still writing the songs, as in Layne's timelocustsloth

And if you continue emulating that signature delivery Layne contributed that built the brand, it is gravytraining. One man's opinion.
- Even if it's not due to Cantrell's writing, i think of it more as not relinquishing equity than gravytraininglocustsloth
- The delivery you are referring to us cantrell...not laynemarychain

"gave Black Gives Way to Blue probably 2 listens"
I was like this when I first heard it. Now I go back to it again and again - it's got me hooked. Loving it now.

One of your band-mates passes away = you have no right to ever play music again? smh

If you listen to Cantrell's solo stuff, it sounds a lot like the last AIC album with Layne and the stuff with the new singer. If Jerry hadn't been such an integral part of the songwriting during their hay-day, i'd likely agree with you, BonSeff.
Bands like Nirvana and Blind Melon where the lyrical and melodic content came almost completely from the singer will have a hard time making music that is anywhere near as good as before the singer died. AIC still hasn't achieved that either, but i think they are closer than the other 2 bands did or could come

yea, i kinda agree with that, but I went to a AiC concert here in Brazil, where they played most of old songs, and I swear DuVall was auto tunned to sound like Layne, and it was just like it.
When I watched the replay on cable TV, i saw that the auto-tune wasn't there, so maybe the audio that was going to the TV channel wasn't going thru the auto-tune.
It was amazing IMHO, to see the full band and a layne-like voice, even if slightly auto-tunned.
I like the new stuff, sounds renewed, and I agree with marychain, they shouldn't stop doing stuff just because Layne killed him self with drugs

The new album is going to need a good few listens to settle with me. I've listened to "Stone" dozens of times since it was on Spotify and watched the video several times.
