broke how? was it run over by a bus? or does it just not power on? if it's still in one piece the data may be recoverable from the harddrive.
i'd first plug it in the usb port on a pc see if it recognizes the drive, if not take it to the apple store to see if they can extract the photos.

thanks obama.

I feel like you and I might be connected by karma. You have experienced bad luck. Just last night on the train, I found an abandoned Nexus 7. Looks to be brand new.
Swings and roundabouts.

right, here's how I'd do it. First, get the smallest screwdriver you can find and undo those small screws on the bottom of your iPhone. Unclip the screen (v.carefully) and take a look under the hood. There might be a touch of glue which will make this part a bit difficult, but it'll make sense. Anyway, once you've done this, wrap the inside of your phone with tin foil. It might sound stupid, but seriously, it will only work this way.
Then reattached you iPhone to you Mac, but insert the USB plug into your Mac REEEAAALLY slow. Leave it there for about 12 minutes and hopefully all your photos will come back and they'll copy directly onto your computer. Bingo!- LOL, omg, I'm tearing upmonospaced

Blaming him is totally the solution.
Whether or not you get your photos back, I hope you're learning a lesson from this.

He is to blame though, 2013 with no backup solution when things like iCloud, Time Machine, Glacier, AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE and Dropbox.
And he's not providing any real information about how it's broken so how can we provide solutions

steps to fix your phone and recover valuable data.
1) Have an attorney present to assist you. Preferably one who's recently undergone chemotherapy. He'll likely empathize with you and provide technical and moral support. He'll also represent you when Apple sue's you for attempting to reverse engineer their intellectual property.
2) use a q-tip to clean the audio input.
3) Gently push a small screwdriver into the hole until you feel a sudden release. If you hear a cracking sound, start over at step 1
4) Spray the phone with pesticide. This step is optional, but why not get a little high to help pass the time.
5) Now, soak the phone in isopropyl alcohol for 1 hour. Use an egg time to ensure you don't go over the required time. This is very important. Then proceed to put the phone in a bucket of uncooked Uncle Ben's wild rice for 10 minutes to dry the phone. A bugget of maggots (as shown) will suffice as a replacement if you don't have any rice.
6) Now put the phone in a toilet paper roll. If it turns on, you're done! Otherwise proceed to step 5.
7) Now proceed to take the phone apart. Any tools of your choice can be used.
8) Lay the contents of the phone on the table
9) Now carefully reassemble the phone but do not put the battery back in. It's likely a virus entered your phone and gave the battery cancer. Your attorney will explain.
10) You're now finished and your phone should be working properly again.
11) Take a walk with your phone somewhere where the breeze will flow through your hair. It's fun.

If he had time to take the photos he had time to dump the photos on the computer. It's not like it takes a million years.
Anyway, I'd take the phone to an Apple Store, there must be a way to recover it.
iCloud even has an option now to backup your photos...

scan your social media channels for your pics. good chances are you shared a lot of them with family and friends. parents of new borns always do this days.
