Are we beyond this ? Trends, I mean - surely it's all all all about UX ?
There are many techniques to direct attention and communicate paths and heirarchy and value, for every identity or style. Saying that 'flat' is a trend, is like saying turning left is trend in motorsport.- ableton uses it to great functional effect \/lodef
- Yes, it really does.
*I just don't like it :Pmikotondria3

Dunno, pretty sure Ive been seeing tons of flat designs for the last 15 years.

I like. Better than all that annoying 3d glossy 2.0 bullshit.
- spendogg0
agreed OSFA. I have been rocking flat shit since day one and always try to get it through - I am happy that clients and such will stop demanding gradients and 2.0 crap and that when we do 3D stuff it will be more thoughtful.
- OSFA0
I rather spend 20 minutes trying to figure out a nice layout and position than 30 minutes building or editing a 5-layer, glossy button.

As much as I dislike gradients for the sake of gradients, approaching any design problem with pre-conceived ideas is really failing as a designer.
All flat is no better than all gradients, approaching design this way is missing the point that it has to communicate.

I like it. Though for an OS, you need some texture and depth imo.

Every trend is cyclical. It doesn't necessarily make any sense or have any value, beyond the perception of newness.
- that's fucking interesting, man...

Just a few year ago Microsoft was trying to market the bevelled glossy look as the future of UI...now they are declaring flat design as "the future." Give it a few years and it will be something else.

- That's just,like, your opinion, mancannonball1978
- um... ya.... Microsoft is never the trend setter.pango

LOL at people saying that this is just a trend and that it will be something else in a couple of months... .... I mean, welcome to ... like.. everything on planet Earth! Thats the definition of a trend.
- You're just saying that.mikotondria3
- There are many different sorts of trends, trends can be localised to certain areas, cultures or global trends and everything in between. A trend can last a short time, or a very long time.d0mino
- they can last for short periods of time, or long periods of time. I think you are getting trends and fads confused.d0mino
- welcome to ... like.. the definition of a trend.d0mino
- Yes some trends might be evolving towards something while others might just be a fad like color of the yearukit2
- qbn is certainly not a trend.inteliboy
