Genius at 26 years of age?

I think I have a different understanding of "Genius"... having grown up surrounded by physicists and mathematicians.... there was often talk of how some people's main insight came before age 30 and afterwards is mostly a variation on a theme, whereas some other people's insights came over a lifetime and were more varied....
In either case, the tendency to "fashion" is less in that world than in design, with the possible exception of string theory....

@fadein11
I think its good to have these conversations to what is design and what communicates. Its not hating, its just another point of view.As I said before his stuff looks great but I'm not sure it communicates as well as it could do.

lol @ let's see a portfolio...
as if someone who isn't a chef isn't allowed to say some food tastes like shit.
the stuff is art, hardly design, it communicates little to nothing.

@qtime - lets see your portfolio? you are trollin' n hatin' (did I just say that?) for no apparent reason. His work is superb.
Yes the reality of bread and butter graphic design is different but who cares - its a nice selection of work from a clearly talented individual.
Its certainly not a rip in any form.

I like his stuff.

I wonder if he will be putting "Felix Pfäffli was born in 1986." on the first line of his twitter page in 5 years time.
- I wonder if you'll still be trolling in 5 years time?d_rek
- Its an interesting trend that young designers like to shout about their age.qTime
- It's an interesting trend when nameless, faceless anonymous people on the internet are prejudiced for no apparent reasond_rek

- qTime negative comments currently at 4 and counting in this thread. Let's see how far we can go with thispig
- Its just a different view point to that of the "genius wonder boy'. My comments are pretty justifiedqTime
- Its aesthetically pleasing work.qTime

What's up with the vitriol? The dudes 'folio is solid. Who cares if it's 'real client work' or not?
Do you judge the aptitude of a designer by his ability to compromise their entire body of work just because it's not 'real client work'? If i put all fo the 'real client work' I did in my folio nobody would want to hire me.
Y'all is just jealous and callow individuals.
- qTime0
I don't think a lot of this work would stand up in the real world.
Perhaps if the guys parents have got great contacts and he can do work like this and get paid thats great.
The reality for most designers is very different.

@fate
I often do pro-bono work for musicians / friends' bands just to break up the hum-drum of the everyday. Granted they only pay in beer and/or free admission they tend to be far easier to work with than most of the 'real' clients I have. To be honest it's that type of work that sometimes keeps me sane.
- qTime0
It just looks like ffffound.
I would say its more illustration than real graphic design.

NIce refreshing body of work.
Original? Who's to say what's original and what's stale these days? There is no originality any more. Only things which you can make your own.
I sometimes wish I was as prolific as some of my contemporaries... but then reality sets in and I go and play with my daughter.

@fadein11: Are you Felix Pfäffli by any chance?
- fate0
Let's be honest: Can you imagine this guy working on a client that is *not* an indie musician or other designers?
- You mean a REAL client?ORAZAL
- Yep, non of this work looks 'real'
Its design for designersqTime - I tend to agree but at least he's probably having fun while the rest of us work with 'real' clientsd_rek
- His work has some commercial and professional uses, but its limited.CygnusZero4
- I would like to see his folio in 3 years and see if he's managed to keep it trendy while working for 'real' clientsqTime
- Yes, everyone should work for boring clients like lawyers and health org.freedom

Someone is happy in Switzerland now! Cheers to Luzern. And yes, I like your portfolio, too.

- post morning coffee - less grumpy and cynical now:
Adrian Frutiger was 29 when he designed Univers.
Maybe I'm getting old, but it seems so many achieve big things before they're 30. And there's lots of great design out there coming from younger people...maybe because the internet gives this generation more access to lots of high quality inspiration that the libraries we had at university just couldn't possibly stock.
In some ways I'm heartened by the future of our industry. In other ways, there's lots more plagiarism out there too. A downside to greater exposure to others' work I suppose.Either way it's always nice to see new work. Especially on here where design threads are rare these days.
I had lots of lovely feedback here back in the day (like 8 years ago!) which helped me progress in my career. So keep up the good work Felix, I say- resuming grumpy, cynicism in 3, 2, 1 -
