May be heading over for a long weekend or more sometime next month. I'm looking at places on Air BnB and was hoping some of you could recommend specific neighborhoods.
Really just looking to hang out, eat, drink, see some sites etc.
Also, if you have recommendations on things to do/places to go that'd be great!
Thanks in advance.

Not sure why it took so long to find this thread, but it has proved to be a good starting point.

Bump
Any other suggestions?
Right now I'm looking at Kreuzberg, Neukölln, and Prenzlaur-Berg.
Are there any pros/cons of one versus the other?- autoflavour needs to chime in hereernexbcn
- forget pberg.. unless you are a young family with a pram..autoflavour

If you're going to Germany for the first time, going to Berlin isnt exactly the best place to visit. Go to some of the towns in the countryside like Rothenburg.

Don't book your flight to BER. Make sure to choose a different airport.

Kreuzberg:
Oranienstraße (don’t confuse with Oranienburger Straße, that’s in Mitte), Skalitzer Str., Schlesische Str., Dieffenbachstr. and sourrounding areas (Wrangelkiez) are very nice. Make sure you take a walk by the canal (Paul-Lincke-Ufer, Maybachufer). Lots of bars, cafés and little shops. Theres another area (Kiez) in West-Kreuzberg around Bergmannstr. which is nice too: lots of cheap Indian Restaurants
Gentrification level: 7/10Mitte:
Weinmeister Str., Alte Schönhauser Str., Auguststr., Gipsstr., Rosenthaler Platz, Hackescher Markt, Oranienburger Str.: Lots of bars, cafés, little shops and art galleries.
Friedrichstr: expensive shops
Gentrification level: 9/10Prenzlauer Berg:
Kastanienallee, Schwedter Str., Oderberger Str., Pappelallee: Lots of bars, cafés and little shops.
Gentrification level: 9/10Neukölln:
Hermannplatz, Sonnenallee, Weserstr. and the area towards Kreuzberg (Kreuzkölln): Improvised bars, had a boom among artists and hipsters and hipster artists from abroad because of cheap rents and proximity to Kreuzberg
Gentrification level: 5/10Friedrichshain:
area around Boxhagener Platz, rather touristy / student-ish, lots of bars, walk over there from Kreuzberg across Oberbaumbrücke is nice
Gentrification level: 7/10Wedding:
you should know what you are doing, but can be nice
Gentrification level: 4/10The classics:
Museumsinsel, Oranienburger Tor, Alexanderplatz, Potsdamer Platz, Martin-Gropius-Bau, Neue Nationalgalerie, Jüdisches Museum, Regierungsviertel etc.- Thanks!duckseason

i would say if its just a weekend, then yep, in kreuzberg would probably do nicely..
maybe Friedrichshain.. but only because its a short distance to Kreuzberg..
the part of Neu Kölln near kreuzberg is also nice.. around Maybach Ufer..
but further into Neu Kölln, near Karl Marx Allee .. i wouldnt bother with.. not for a weekend.

Ended up booking a studio in Kreuzberg.
Thanks for all the advice!

bump to this post for useful factor.
Headed to berlin in next few weeks from Toronto as part of a little world cup watch/hang EU campaign. Kreuzberg seems to be safe bet for a good stay.
Looking forward to just kinda strolling around, seeing the city, and will get a club party in or two. World Cup watching will be great.
