It's time to do an upgrade. What smartphone do you like and why?
I currently have an iPhone 4. Not sure if I want to move up to the 5 or try out an android or windows phone.

If you don't mind the cost and are happy with iOS, I'd say stick with it and go for the 5.
I prefer Android but there are a lot of great apps you may use on iOS that you can't get on Android.
Check your major apps have Android versions or very strong equivalents. Then consider the benefits of Android.
I've recently started using my Android phone as my media center when I'm at home, using the beta XBMC app and hooking it up to my TV via MHL. I plug it in and stream media from my network drive in 720p to my telly. As far as I'm aware you can't do that on an iPhone.
Though I prefer Android and would advise anyone who isn't really used to a smartphone to get one instead of iOS, I don't think the benefits over iOS are strong enough to encourage a swap, unless you're keen to try something new and learn some new behaviours.

if you dont want a bigger screen Id say hack your 4 to upgrade ios, i have an iphone 3 unlocked it and hacked the shit out of it, only think is its 3g so not as fast. only reason worth upgrading is the processor, speed, video, and camera and a shit load of other features.
I like the galaxy s3 and missed an opportunity on cyber monday to get it for free, 2yr contract with credo.

If going Android, the Nexus 4 looks solid.

In all honesty, I admit to be brainwashed by apple.
I can't use a device that doesn't have mac os in it, I just can't take it.
I get so frustrated w PCs these days, I feel like a neanderthal confronted with the task of setting up the timer on a VCR.Same thing w phones, I know apple maps sucks (a reason to not update my os) I hate DRM anything, the overpriced shit, the entire apple store concept full of people showing of their unnecessary purchases thinking that its reason enough to call themselves artists.
The genius bar and the fact that they ask you 'would you like to set up an appointment with a genius' is so condescending.
And countless of other things, I admit THAT.
But what can I say, I'm no brainwashed that I can't appreciate any other device when it comes to phones or computers, specially on the OS department. Sure there some laptops out there look really nice, but if it's not apple you are going to get windows on it, so I can't like it.

a couple of weeks ago i traded in my aged, slow, jail-broken iphone 3g for an iphone 5. it's great - light, fast battery life is so much better and it does everything I need. Maps not an issue yet, mainly because i haven't used them. I didn't look at any other brands so i can't give you a comparison.
- yeah, most people use maps as much as the email, unless you don't really move from your blockMiguex

I had a pager, nokia 8 colour screen phone (no camera) and currently an iphone 4. I'm quite happy with my iPhone 4. It does all i need. Can't leave house with out it. I'm waiting for iPhone 8 to come out then i'll upgrade my phone.

After owning my HTC EVO for almost 2 years now I can definitively say I will not be buying another HTC product. They pretty much completely dropped support and upgrades for the after only a year of owning it. If i want to update the firmware (android) then I have to root the device. The native HTC gui stuff is nothing special either... and has lacked a significant update in a long time.
Also, the device is starting to considerably show it's age. The actual materials have no held up that well to wear and tear: the glass is scratched, the outer shell is bulging and slightly mis-shaped to the point where the back no longer is 100% securely fastened to the device. The touch functionality is no longer completely reliable either.
So there are my two cents... i'll probably get an iPhone when my contract is up in January. From what i've seen support for iPhone's is far superior to other makes/models of smartphones. Just something to keep in mind when buying.
